May 27, 2013

Good afternoon! What a weekend it's been. Saturday I worked on my Daisy Lace Knit, got the mail, surfed eBay, checked facebook & took my game turns, the FD got toned out to a fire alarm, I worked on my lace doily, then the power went out for quite a bit & I ended up measuring every project I have & doing the math to see how far along I am on each one (2nd pic) (will update all this info on Ravelry tomorrow), couldn't cook w/o power so ordered Pizza Hut, took the dogs out, & made sure my facebook link worked from my personal Website, checked Pinterest, & worked on Kyle's Tardis afghan. My Sims game for Saturday was Maplegrove. My current Sim Michael ate, showered, slept, & went to

class. No time for anything else. Yesterday was a LONG day. I took the dogs out, worked on my Bavarian Crochet & Board Knitting, went through the Sunday paper, the FD got toned out to an EMS call, Kyle mowed the lawn, I surfed eBay, hand knit, added a welcome graphic to my personal Website, & then asked Pete if he wanted to come w/ me out to get a slice of pizza. He wasn't ready, so I waited for him. I waited TWELVE hours ... but had the 1st 12 hour Sims marathon I've had in a VERY long time. It was light out when we left the house. All-nighter. WOW! We headed out & went shopping for supplies at Wal-Mart, had my 1st meal since Saturday's pizza, then bought groceries at Kroger (didn't get milk & ice cream at Wal-Mart because we didn't want it to melt while we were eating. We came home, unloaded the truck, took a 1 hour nap, drive Kyle to Boy Scouts, came back & slept another couple hours, woke up, & downed a 5 Hour Energy (I'll never get over how well that stuff works)! I was so tired when I woke up that I was almost delirious, but the 5 Hour Energy has kicked in & I actually feel normal right now. I've taken the dogs out & updated the apps on my iPad Mini. Today's Sims game is Glenwood Cottage (3rd pic). My current Sim is Faith (1st gen) & she entered the University towards a technology degree, which is kinda funny because one of her traits is technophobe. The reason she's going for a technology degree though is because she has the handy trait which is one of the traits useful in that degree. She's also in the military & the technology degree will help her there, too. Happy Memorial Day!

American soldiers were called "doughboys" by the other Allied forces because they thought their uniforms made them look like "gingerbread men."

Anything less than Win-Win in an interdependent reality is a poor 2nd best that will have impact in the long-term relationship.  The cost of that impact needs to be carefully considered. if you can't reach a true Win-Win, you're very ogten better off to go for No Deal.

ABOUT COOK'S ILLUSTRATED:
Cook’s Illustrated, launched in 1993, is located just outside Boston where a team of more than three dozen test cooks, editors, and cookware specialists work in a 2,500-square-foot test kitchen.  Our mission is to test recipes over and over again until we understand how and why they work and until we arrive at the “best” version of a particular recipe.
We start the process of testing each recipe with a complete lack of conviction, which means that we accept no claim, no theory, no technique, and no recipe at face value.  We simply assemble as many variations as possible, test half a dozen of the most promising, and taste the results blind.  We then construct our own hybrid recipe and continue to test it, varying the ingredients, techniques, and cooking times until we reach a consensus. The result, we hope, is the best version of a particular recipe, but we realize that only you can be the final judge of our success (or failure).  As we like to say in the test kitchen, “We make the mistakes so you don’t have to.”
Along with developing recipes, our test kitchen team exhaustively tests kitchen equipment and does blind tastings of supermarket ingredients to tell home cooks which brands to buy…and which to avoid.  More than one million Cook’s Illustrated readers rely on Cook’s Illustrated reviews to make smarter decisions about which cooking products and ingredient brands to buy.
Cook’s Illustrated recipes, testings, and tastings can be found in Cook’s Illustrated magazine and cookbooks, online at CooksIllustrated.com, or featured on our public television show, America’s Test Kitchen.

Here we are, already at Memorial Day. A time for family cookouts, family fist fights, & ultimately, the family mug shot at the police station. Put it in a nice frame for all to see. And don't forget to remember what Memorial Day is all about.

Hey, this is Memorial Day ... At my house this weekend, there's going to be a big family get-together. Yeah, Mom & Dad & all the kids. A big barbecue, a little cold beer, a volleyball game. I won't be there. I'll be in Palm Springs, having fun. -Johnny Carson 1978

Lemon Drop Victorian:
Sunday's game & my 12 hour Sims marathon! This game saw TWO generations of Sims graduate from the University at the top of their class. The 1st, Ginny (1st gen) graduated top of her class w/ a degree in Phys Ed & changed her job from superstar athlete to sports agent (unlocked when you graduate w/ a phys ed degree & are maxed out in jock influence. She's making great
money now & traded out their standard vehicles w/ the 2 beauties shown (5th pic). Ginny's daughter Destiny (2nd gen) grew up & also entered the University w/ an apprentice in technology. She also graduated at the top of her class & then joined the military at level 4 & is making great pay.

Memorial Day began in 1868 as Decoration Day, as a time for the nation to use flowers to decorate the graves of fallen Union soldiers who died during the Civil War.
