July 9, 2013

Good morning! It's a typical hot Texas morning ... was already in the 90s when I woke up at 9:a. Yesterday I called the store I applied at just to follow up & let them know my online application was filled out. They asked for my name & said they'd watch for it. This is something I could never get my daughter to do ... not only apply for a job, but follow up! I guess she was hoping it would get lost or overlooked. When you don't really WANT a job, you sure don't want to take steps that will help you GET the job. I, on the other hand, want the job. I want A/C & the rest of the repairs, improvements, & additions on that home list. I'm not content to just sit in a corner & read while everyone else takes care of everything for me. I never was OK with that ... when I wasn't working outside the home, I was busting my butt inside the home. It's not time for me to go back to work yet ... I'm supposed to wait until June '14, but let's see if I can squeak in a P/T gig between now & then at the very least. I made egg salad for breakfast, worked on my broomstick lace crochet, surfed eBay, checked facebook & took my game turns, the FD got toned out to a med call, I worked on my hand knitting, made sure the Inkle loom link worked on my personal Website, & then ordered Pizza Hut delivery for lunch just as Pete got home from work. Yesterday's Sims game was the Summer Garden Cottage & my Sim Scott Whipsnake (3rd gen) has been going to school & working on random skills just so he has some since he doesn't know what he wants to be yet when he grows up & has no skill-specific traits yet. Just like I've always told my real-life kids ... even if you don't know what you want to do with your life yet, at least learn SOMETHING. Some knowledge is better than NO knowledge. At least you'll have options when you grow up & some sort of an idea what you like & don't like. Sitting around reading for a living while others wait on you should NOT be an option even if you're a millionaire who was born into money. You still should do SOMETHING productive with your life. I did. I produced 2 children & in between raising them & taking care of the home, I made sure my hobby produced. Crocheting & knitting produces afghans & sweaters. Sitting around reading produces nothing. I'm not saying don't read, but I'm saying don't read 16 hours a day! Speaking of reading, I just bought George Takai's book & my biggest problem is going to be making TIME to read it! I have the opposite problem of someone else ... I never have time to read. To just sit & let the minutes tick by as I do nothing but ... read. I try to force myself in cases like this because I really want to read this book ... but when? There's so much to do & when I'm not working, the thought of not being productive just ... burns. Even when it's a book I WANT to read, I feel like I'm being extremely wasteful just sitting there not producing anything other than carbon dioxide for plants. Let's see if I can force myself to become a lump just long enough to get through this book when it arrives. So far this morning I've taken the dogs out & I'm looking forward to another productive day. I'm waiting for 4 things: 1) a call from the job I applied for. 2) My batteries & other eBay items to arrive. 3) My V2 E-cigs to arrive. 4) My book to arrive. Tonight is maintenance at the station, so if you're a FD member I hope you go to the station & help out. I don't have the time these days, but you should still go. They need you. They need all of us. If I had the time anymore, I'd be there. Take care of our little volunteer FD, because if we don't ... no one will. I wish I had the time ... I'm really starting to miss that place & everyone in it. Some of them I don't even know yet, it's been that long. Every week I say "maybe by next Tuesday my schedule will work itself out & I'll have more time."

Being the 1st man to cross Niagra Falls on a tightrope wasn't enough for Charles Blondin; he had to do it a number of times in slightly different ways. He crossed blindfolded, while on stilts, carrying a man on his back, pushing a wheelbarrow, & dressed as an ape. One time, he even sat down in the middle & cooked & ate an omelet.

Effective delegation is perhaps the best indicator of effective management simply because it's so basic to both personal & organizational growth.

Your tendency to brag about last weekend's alien abduction could raise eyebrows at work. it's best to keep it on the "down low" & if you must brag, avoid words like "poke" & "probe."
