★ July 19, 2013 ★

Good morning! Yesterday was insane. I spent most of it out & running errands. Pete had the day off work so he was w/ us for our day out. We started out by taking Kyle to the high school so he could pick up his transcripts for the college, but everyone was out to lunch. Well THAT'S not a stellar start to the day. Then we stopped at City Hall, wished Janis a happy birthday & Pete did some work. After that it was off to
Milligan across the street to pay our water bill, then back to Princeton to get breakfast at Golden Chick, then BACK to the high school & they were in this time so Kyle was able to get his transcripts, then home to grab the mail in case anything was delivered that was supposed to stay cool (V2 cartridges or candles don't fare well in Texas summer heat), then out to the McKinney courthouse for Kyle's court date.
Well THAT went stellar! Kyle goes up before the judge (we were the last of 3 people seeing the judge) w/ Pete & I in tow. The judge didn't say much, just fined him $125 & didn't revoke his permit OR ability to get a license (WOW!). While Pete & Kyle stepped to the side to do paperwork, the judge said that we had a good kid there. I said he's trying ... he's a Boy Scout & going to be getting his Eagle next year. With that,
the judge called Kyle back over & asked him what the difference between the Marine Corps & the Boy Scouts is. Kyle didn't know. the judge then said "The Boy Scouts have adult leadership." (HAHA!). The judge then, out of the blue, asked Kyle if he liked Harry Potter. Kyle lit up & I just said "uh oh ... now you've done it. Kyle runs several Harry Potter fan pages on facebook." The lady who was doing
paperwork w/ Pete stopped what she was doing & said "OMG, really? Then those two are going to be best friends! The judge is a Harry Potter fanatic!" Wow. I wasn't expecting that. The judge then proceeded to go into a Harry Potter trivia showdown with Kyle ... something Kyle has NEVER lost at ... EVER. That judge OWNED Kyle. Shut him down! I've never seen anything like it! This judge has been to Harry Potter World
many times, had a nice collection of collectibles including a coffee mug that he had in the back room & brought out to show Kyle, & then went on to tell us about the great restaurant at Harry Potter World. Kyle was shocked ... I was shocked. Best. Judge. Ever. After hanging w/ the judge for a while, we went to Walmart to get Kyle another inner tube for his bicycle & then once we got home I was busy for 2 hours
chatting w/ Paul, Andrew, Kyle, & Pete. All separately & all about different subjects. Multi-tasking quite well I must say since not once did I answer the wrong person & have them come back w/ "Uhhh, what?" :) By the time all that was done, I finally settled down to start my new knitting project, the Classic Cabled Throw in Light Gray. Pete came out when he was done w/ his stuff in his room & we watched Atlas Shrugged: II. Part I was OK, but part II was GREAT! WOW! Yesterday's Sims game was Simiterranean Seaside Home & my Sim Valerie went to the university on a distinguished science award. She's working on her fishing & gardening skills & going to classes. Yesterday when starting the Sims game, I saw an ad on their game launcher that caught my attention. Run your own restaurant. I needed to buy Simpoints to get the game, so I went to purchase the Simpoints & ended up getting an unexpected bundle deal. Not only did I get the points I needed to purchase the new restaurant that my Sims can run themselves, but I also got Dragon Valley, a new world & now my 7th, & the Celtic Lands set. SO ... a new career, a new world, & a new set of stuff. SWEET! I'd say it was well worth it. :) This morning I woke up, took the dogs out, headed off to work, stopped at Kroger on my way back home, got the mail & my new V2 cartridges came. The red was definitely too strong, the blue? Perfect strength, but the flavor ... YUCK! Ewww! I have 81 blue cartridges now ... Congress. I think the flavor is giving me a headache. Yuck ick phbbbt! I better get used to it & fast. I think the next time I buy these things, which is going to be a LONG time from now, I'm NOT getting the blue again. Probably back to the red. I can't get this taste out of my mouth from these blue ones. Ugh! 81 packs. YUCK!!! I also got a freebie; a sampler pack of all the flavors they sell. It'll take me a couple weeks to get up the nerve to try them all, but now I have EVERY flavor they make: Chocolate, Coffee, Congress (eeew), Menthol, Mint Tea, Peppermint, Red (good but strong), Sahara, & Vanilla. For today though, I'll stick w/ Congress. I guess now I can do a flavor of the day. HA! Cool. Hey, do you smoke V2? Want to buy some Congress? Storms heading in. LCFD Training Tuesday.

2nd stage of emphatic listening is to rephrase the content. It's a little more effective, but it's still limited to the verbal communication. This time, you've put the speaker's meaning into your own words. Now you're thinking about what she said, mostly w/ the left side, the reasoning, logical side of the brain.

---
With music alarms, a built-in sleep timer, weather info, customizable photo backgrounds, and even an included shake-on / shake-off flashlight, Nightstand Central turns your iPad into the ultimate bedside hub.
Wake up to your favorite tunes and drift into sleep a little easier with an included sleep timer that lets you play everything from music playlists to relaxing sounds to audio books or podcasts. If you need to get up in the middle of the night, just shake to toggle the included flashlight, and shake again to turn it off. And when you wake up, see the current weather conditions before you even get out of bed.
Nightstand Central is equally at home away from the bedside, as well. Set your iPad in a stand on your desk or coffee table and use it as a beautiful photo frame with heads-up time and weather information.
Almost everything about Nightstand Central can be tweaked to fit your personality, for example:
-Pick wallpapers from your Photo Album and Nightstand Central will automatically cycle the background image among these how ever often you'd like. You can mix and match your own photos and any of the gorgeous included wallpapers, as well.
-Set up different music alarm playlists for different days. You can even make your alarm gently fade in - it's all up to you.
-Configure the clock / weather HUD to make it bigger, smaller, centered, or move it off to one side or the other, whatever suits your fancy
So throw away your boring, standalone alarm clock, and replace it with something that truly stands out - your iPad and Nightstand Central.

Smartest person in the world today is Kim Ung-yong, born in Korea in 1962, who began speaking at the age of 4 months! Great, a baby who can tell his mom when he needs a clean diaper - genius!

Spend more time at home the next few days. It could be a good time to work on your home brew process or beef jerky-drying technique.

This is The Tonight Show from, as I say, Burbank, not Hollywood. Burbank I kid a lot. And rightfully so. It's not - would you say, senior citizens, more senior citizens in Burbank, I guess. For example, in Burbank an ambulance is considered a mobile home.
