June 13, 2013

Good morning! Another busy day yesterday & didn't even make it to lunch. I found a new afghan crochet pattern to add to my queue (1st pic). It's called Granny Stripes & was originally a baby blanket & is on Caron's Website. The version shown is a modified version that someone made & there are no directions, so I took the original directions, stared at the photo of the modified version, & rewrote the directions to match the one pictured here. As usual there will be 2 versions, the Red Heart version for more color choices & the Caron Simply Soft version for the super
shiny & soft feature. I would have started already but I don't have all the yarn required (yet). This pattern requires 5 colors & I only have 3 of the Red Heart colors & 2 of the Caron colors. YARN RUN! I spent 3 hours cleaning the house yesterday. Kyle promised that he was going to do my chores yesterday in exchange for being driven all over, but he bailed on me & didn't do them. I swapped out the window
A/C unit in my office because it was getting old. It's huge ... twice the size of the others, but because of it's age only blows cool air instead of cold air. My office is now where the dining room used to be, so the area is extremely large. That A/C unit needs to cool my office, the living room, kitchen, entryway, & hallway. Needless to say it barely cooled my desk area which is right next to it. I put the older unit in my
crafting room because it's a much smaller area & it will be easier for it to keep up. The brand new A/C unit is tiny, but blows COLD air. I'm freezing right now because it's blowing right on me, but later in the day I'll be glad it's brand new & working well. Average mid-day temp in the house? 90° w/ all 3 window A/C units running full blast. My goal was to add 1 new A/C unit per year until the house was a little cooler, but this year's brand new unit had to replace the one that got destroyed accidentally when we tried to drain it. That thing was useless most of the time because every time it rained, it would fill with water & you couldn't turn it on for a couple weeks without it spraying water all over the room because the main fan was sitting in rain water. While making a hole in the bottom of the unit to drain it, a line was punctured. Instant trash. I wish I could afford TWO new units this year since I'd need to buy a SECOND one to actually ADD one to the mix, but I just can't afford it. Maybe next year. I surfed eBay & then took some of my game turns on facebook before Pete got home. Yesterday's Sims game was Lombardi & my Sim Yvette is in the university & going to classes. I was woken up this morning by Lawson picking up our key for the other house. He's going to be doing some work on it for us now that we're renting it out. I took the dogs out & updated the apps on my iPad Mini & iPhone 5. Tomorrow marks the 8th anniversary of the day I got my truck. Happy 8th birthday to my Chevy! It's still running great & I still love that truck. The only issue it's developed is some problem where every time I peel out or take off from a stop really fast, it suddenly begins pulling HARD to the right. I mean I have the steering wheel vertical to the left to keep going in a straight line. Sometimes, if I slam on the brakes really hard it resets it back to normal. Other times I just have to take it slow & wait for it to start working properly again. I have no idea what's wrong with it, it feels like the brakes are stuck though. Not because of a lag, but because of the pulling hard to the right. I'd take it to a shop, but how many times would they have to peel out before it did it for them? I can recreate the problem just fine, but as you know ... when you take it to a repair shop it suddenly makes a liar out of you & works perfectly. Not to mention I can't afford a large repair. They'll take payments on a brand new vehicle, but they won't take payments on a repair. Oh well. I worry about Kyle learning to drive in a truck that has a mechanical issue, but as long as he doesn't peel out we'll be fine. He knows about the problem & knows how to compensate for it. If it happens we'll pull over immediately & switch seats.

According to legend, the burrito (Spanish for little donkey) was invented by taco seller Juan Mendez who used a donkey to carry his food. To keep the food warm, Juan wrapped food in large flour tortillas. People loved it, & began asking for the "food of the guy w/ the little donkey" & that's how the burrito got its name.

Trip to Mars is fascinating because computers figure the orbit of both of the planets, both the Earth & Mars. It'll take 230 days to get there & 240 days to return. But they say the astronauts will not notice a difference because the ride home always seems faster. -Johnny Carson 1991
