Saturday was a good day. I got everything done which is unusual for a Saturday. I did laundry, cleared & cleaned the dining room table, mopped the entryway, & swept the bathroom. I checked out some cool videos on YouTube including my favorite Simmer Curtis Paradis. I checked eBay & then knitted the 1st panel of the new afghan. W thin white mock cable panel which will be folded in half to form the edge. I checked Twitter, went through the mail, then Pete & I went out with Kyle to a new Italian Restaurant (new to us) that's next to where Josh works & had something to eat while waiting for Josh to get off work. When we
got home Pete had stuff he wanted to do, so I happily loaded up Sims. I normally never play when there are people here. I have a rule ... family 1st. It wouldn't be nice to get lost in the Matrix with REAL people in the house, but they were all busy doing other things, so after making SURE ... I came in & plugged myself into the Matrix. I've started working on Worthington, my next creation. It's a beautiful 2-story house & so far I've completed the garage, laundry
room, & front porch. There's going to be a LOT of living space on a small 20x20 lot. The house price is already VERY expensive because I put 2 very high-priced vehicles in the garage. Whoever lives in this house is going to travel to town in style. :) The game I played Saturday night was Sprignmanor & coincidentally, I played the spring season (for the 1st time). The Spring Festival was fun. There's a love testing machine (that kept saying my Sim was a
cold fish), a kissing booth for both men & women, a roller skating rink, concession stand, horseshoe games, you can pick spring wildflowers, there are 2 dance floors, face painting, greeting card booth, & an Easter egg hunt that can sometimes get you a fancy Fabrage-type egg for your home. My 1st gen Sim for Springmanor was Quinn. He's neurotic, a loner, can't stand art, loves the cold, & is easily impressed. He has no real skill-based traits so I gave
him a lifetime wish of becoming a CEO of a Mega-Corporation. He likes Vegetarian Lobster Thermidore, custom music, the color pink. He's a Scorpio. His furry companion is Chris, an Abyssinian who's piggy, friendly, & non-destructive. At work, Quinn met & married Fatima Simovitch. It was a beautiful 62° at 2:a in springtime & they had a son, Lewis (2nd gen.). Lewis is a loner who loves the outdoors, a Sagittarius who likes Indie music, egg rolls, & the color
grey. A virtuoso with commitment issues, he's also a genius which lines him up to be a Hit Movie Composer (symphonic branch of the musical career). One night Lewis' mom Fatima heard a weird noise outside & ran into the driveway to see what it was. This light came down from the sky & she disappeared. Fatima had been abducted by aliens! When they returned her out on the sidewalk in front of the home, it said "Fatima can't help but feel a little ...
probed." I was laughing so hard that I had to take a break. Glad the
programmers at EA have a sense of humor! It makes the game that much
more fun! In the spring, you have love day as a holiday. After Lewis graduated he married Kristin Malone. They haven't had any luck yet conceiving. I think one of them is having issues in that department. Hmmm. Sunday I had egg salad for breakfast, checked the Sunday paper, cleared my email, updated our LCFD
roster, checked facebook, & then Pete & I stopped at Wendy's for lunch on our way to get Josh from work & when we got back I machine knitted that 1st panel I mentioned above. I was off a day again, I FINISHED the other afghan on Saturday night. After the panel I checked the monthly cleaning schedule & Twitter, then Pete & I did our nighttime routine of dinner, TV, & bed. I thought I had the next 3 days off. I was planning on relaxing & Simming for 3 days
straight. HOLIDAY! Well, that didn't turn out as I planned. Day 1 of 3 was unbelievable. I loaded up my Science career game & created Gary (1st gen.). He has all the science career traits ... green thumb, handy, & angler. The last 2 traits I gave him was a grumpy technophobe. He likes Goopy Cabonera, custom music, & the color purple. He's an Aquarius. His furry companion is Vinnie. A small, English Toy Spaniel who's a genius, clueless (those 2
kinda cancel each other out, don't they? They should be incompatible traits), & skittish. This game started out in the summertime with a cool 71° at 7:p. There was a lightening strike in the back yard that left one heck of a blackened scorch mark in the lawn. Gary met & married Gracie Loveland at work. They moved to her place which was much nicer than Gary's little starter home. They adopted a large Irish Terrier named Tiffany to keep Vinnie
company & then had a son, Gary 2nd (2nd gen). Gary 2nd loves the outdoors & is a couch potato. Just go ahead & put the sofa in the back yard & he'll be happy. He's a Leo that likes Indie music, veggie burgers, & the color yellow. He's still a baby when I left the game. My "all day" Simming for day 1 of my 3 day vacation turned into only a short time, because real life took over & ran me over like a steam-roller. It all started with an EMS call on the FD. Out the
door I ran & after the call figured, "I've got all day off, I can take the extra time & go fuel up the rescue. No biggie." I drive to the gas station, fueled up, drove back to the FD, did the report, got the mail, sorted the mail, got a check out to mail a bill, saw a card for a certified letter & thought "I've got all day off, I can take the extra time & go pick up a certified letter. No biggie." So I drive halfway to the Princeton post office & then realize it might be at the McKinney
post office. I look at the slip & yep ... I'm going the wrong way! I turned around & headed to the other post office, picked up the letter, & came back home. Not bad, only 2½ hours out of my 9½ hour holiday. That sill leaves 7 hours of "OFF". I go to the kitchen, get a glass out of the cabinet, sit it on the counter, reach for the fridge & the tones go off again. Grrr ... OK, now I'm starting to get a little annoyed. I JUST got back! Grass fire. My specialty. I run out the
door & head to the station. Hey, wasn't I just here? I called Branch for mutual aid since they said "tree line". I hear branch get toned out to grass fire, tree line, AND possible structure fire! Hey, they didn't give ME that info! Glad I called for help!! We took the east side of the tree line & Branch took the west. Between us we got it knocked out before a single tree caught. Yes. We're THAT good. :) I was supposed to pick Kyle up from school at 4:30 & was
already late. I was going to take 35 (Chief's truck) just to make sure it's started & run every day so it didn't die while Ben did the reports & then Kyle & I would help him fill the brush truck. Too late, already dead. Ben had already hooked up the brush truck to they hydrant & BAM. The tones went off AGAIN. NOW I'm pissed. Not at the emergency, at the timing. People can't help when & where they need help. I in no way am angry at them ... ever. It's just Murphy's
Law that I have issues with! My day off, late picking up my son ... & now we have to scramble to unhook the brush truck, park it half empty in the bay, grab the rescue & head back out to a lockout. We get back, try to jump the Chief's truck with the rescue, no luck. I grab my POV & get Kyle over an hour late, come back, park the rescue, fill the brush, & head home. My day off is over. Remember my rule of REAL people before Sim people? I close the game for the day ... pissed. I walk to the kitchen where my empty glass still sits next to the fridge. I reach for the fridge & the phone rings. "SHOOT IT!" I answer the phone & it's Pete. The poor man makes the mistake of asking "so how is your day off?" I go into a long rant about everything from the 1st tone-out until that minute. I STILL haven't filled my glass. Pete carefully says to me "My brakes went out. I need for YOU to pick Josh up from work." My head almost exploded. Not a Pete ... just in general. I jokingly replied to him in a soft tone "F*ck you." LOL! Josh gets off work at 6. It's now 6:30 & I have to drive all the way out to near Frisco to get him. I'm going to be late, ya think? I tell Pete that I'll pick him up too, don't drive with no brakes! He says the parking brake works just fine ... he just has to drive real slow. Sure, make me nervous! I drag Kyle out with me to get Josh because misery loves company. LOL! On the way back I'm doing 60 mph on 546 & the phone rings. Really? Now? Kyle ... answer this for me! Just take it out of the case, press the button & hand it to me. he does. It's Pete. Pete says "HI! I'm right behind you." I'm doing 60 mph on a winding country road & Mr No Brakes is on my bumper. ARE YOU NUTS?! Oh, wait. Of course he is. He married ME. We get home & I'm wound as tight as a garage door spring. He says; Well, now you can relax. No I can't! Did you pick up the stuff from the store I asked you to? No. I didn't think so. No brakes. We have to go back out now. I drop Kyle & Josh off, Pete switches vehicles & we head back out for groceries & grabbed dinner at iHop. I needed food, a shower, & sleep ... all equally as much. I didn't care which order. After we ate & got groceries, I came home & showered. Then we relaxed in front of the TV until the power went out. Bed time. What caused the power outage? I have no idea. Didn't care. Was too tired. Day off #1 of 3 ... bust. I woke up early Tuesday morning to day off #2 of 3. Success! I loaded up Sims & played until Pete got home with my truck. Many hours of being immersed in the Matrix, recovering from the day before. My muscles were SO sore that it hurt to stand, walk, & move in general. Luckily, I didn't have to move. :) I played Sturbridge. A house I built & decorated but then traded off for a mansion down the street that's stunning. I picked up in the fall at a cold 48° at 7:a. My Sim Isabel Pine met & married Goodwin Goode. They had a son, Harry Good (3rd gen) who hates the outdoors. He's an evil Virgo who likes Pop music, veggie burgers, & the color orange. He's mean spirited & decided he wants to become the Emperor of Evil in the criminal career. He's a BAD Goode. LOL! He's athletic (needed for that career choice), & an angler. While Harry was a child he got to enjoy the fall holiday Spooky Day. He chose from 20 costume choices (chosen by clicking on your Sim during Spooky Day) & decided to be a cat. He went trick or treating & had a great time. There's also feast parties in the fall, flu shots, & I just noticed that there's a new choice of online dating on the pc. That's handy! There have been times I started a work from home career & didn't know anyone. This is going to be very useful in future game startups. I played all the way through 25 game days of fall & winter came. 37° at 1:a & I love the holiday lights on all the houses & the beautiful snow covered town. Harry grew up & met & married Janice Heck in school. They now have a son Ivan Goode (4th gen). Ivan is good (finally a GOOD Goode), disciplined (will probably study martial arts as a teen & older), an Aries who likes Indie music, Dim Sum, & the color lime. He's mean spirited like his dad. How can you be good AND mean spirited? Again, 2 traits I feel should be incompatible. The FD had 2 more EMS calls on Tuesday, the 1st I had no vehicle & the 2nd I was already out cold thanks to NyQuil. Pete said the headache I had most of the day that Advil & Tylenol wouldn't get rid of was a sinus headache & told me to take NyQuil. Of course, it knocked me out cold. This morning is day #3 of my 3 days off. Oops, Kyle is home. Thanksgiving break. I had completely forgotten! I may have thought I had 3 days holiday, but I ended up with 1 great day of Simming. I sync'd Quicken with my bank this morning & all is as it should be in banking land. Normal routine today ... still no truck though. Pete had to take it to work again because he got home too late last night to do a brake job in the dark. Thanksgiving Day tomorrow! Enjoy everyone!! :)

Rumors had swirled around Michael Jackson since the
first public allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor child were
aired amidst a 1993 civil lawsuit that was eventually settled out of
court. A decade later, on November 19, 2003, an embattled Jackson
prepared to face criminal charges of a similar nature when a warrant was
issued for his arrest on charges of child molestation. Though he would
be acquitted two years later of each criminal count on which he was
eventually tried, the erstwhile King of Pop suffered many blows to his
already damaged reputation and finances while facing the charges filed
on this day in 2003.
In fact, this day in 2003 was the second bad November 19th in a row
for Michael Jackson, who had been caught on camera dangling his infant
son from a hotel balcony in Berlin, Germany, exactly one year earlier.
And that incident was only the most recent occurrence to have helped
transform Jackson's image from that of a beloved pop idol to that of a
tabloid curiosity.
It was in this environment that a British television crew led by
reporter Martin Bashir secured Jackson's cooperation in the production
of a documentary called Living With Michael Jackson, a film the
ended up leaving Jackson feeling "devastated and utterly betrayed,"
according to a statement he released after its initial airing. Living With Michael Jackson included
interview footage in which Jackson discussed having had children sleep
in his bed with him during their visits to his now-infamous Neverland
Ranch. It was this footage that led directly to Jackson's arrest on this
day in 2003 after the mother of one of his alleged victims—a
13-year-old cancer patient at the time of the alleged incidents—filed a
criminal complaint in Santa Barbara County.
More than a year later, the case of The People of the State of California v. Michael Joseph Jackson
went to trial, with Jackson facing four counts each of molesting a
minor and intoxicating a minor, one count of abduction and one count of
conspiracy to hold his alleged victim and the victim's parent's hostage
at Neverland Ranch. On June 13, 2005, however, Jackson was acquitted on
all 10 counts.
Shortly after his trial, Jackson announced his intention to leave the United States
and settle permanently in the Persian Gulf nation of Bahrain. He would
return to the U.S. in late 2006 however, though not to Neverland Ranch,
which Jackson lost sole ownership of amid the financial struggles that
dogged him up until his death in Los Angeles on June 25, 2009.

Insouciance:
Lighthearted unconcern : nonchalance
Amanda sauntered casually into the meeting room with an air of insouciance; if she was worried at all about her presentation, she certainly didn't show it.
English-speakers learned "insouciance" from the French in the 1700s (& the adjective "insouciant" has been part of our language since the 1800s). The French garnered their term from Latin; its most immediate ancestor was the verb sollicitare (meaning "to disturb"), which in turn traces to sollicitus, the Latin word for "anxious." If it seems to you that sollicitus looks a lot like some other English words you've seen, you're right. That root also gave us "solicit" (which now means "to entreat," but which was once used to mean "to fill with concern or anxiety"), "solicitude" ("uneasiness of mind"), & "solicitous" ("showing or expressing concern").

On this day in 2003, Phil Spector, the influential,
eccentric music producer who worked with a long list of performers
including The Righteous Brothers, The Ronettes, Ike and Tina Turner,
John Lennon and the Ramones, is indicted in the murder of actress Lana
Clarkson. Spector pled not guilty to the charges.
The 40-year-old Clarkson was found dead from a single gunshot wound to the mouth in the foyer of Spector’s Alhambra, California mansion in the early hours of February 3, 2003. Clarkson, who appeared in a string of B-movies such as Barbarian Queen II: The Empress Strikes Back (1989),
met Spector earlier that same night at the House of Blues in West
Hollywood, where she worked as a hostess, and subsequently returned with
him to his home. Police responded to a 911 call and found Clarkson’s
body. Spector’s limo driver, who was waiting outside in the car at the
time of Clarkson’s death, testified that the music producer came outside
with a gun in his hand and told him, “I think I killed somebody.”
However, Spector later stated that the actress’s death was an
“accidental suicide.”
Spector, who was born on December 26, 1940, in New York City, rose to prominence in the music industry in the 1960s.
He had enormous success as a songwriter and producer and pioneered a
production technique known as the “Wall of Sound.” He also developed a
reputation as an eccentric with a bad temper and a fascination with
guns. By the time of Clarkson’s death, Spector lived a largely reclusive
existence.
Following Spector’s indictment on second-degree
murder charges, his case experienced a series of delays before opening
statements finally began on April 25, 2007. During the high-profile
trial, defense attorneys argued that at the time of Clarkson’s death,
the tall, blonde actress was depressed over the state of her failing
career and troubled personal life and therefore killed herself. The
prosecution, in turn, put several female witnesses on the stand who
testified about Spector’s history of violence toward women.
Throughout
the trial, Spector appeared in court sporting flamboyant outfits and an
array of dramatic hairstyles. He also worked his way through a series
of well-known defense lawyers over the course of his legal troubles,
including O.J. Simpson’s attorney Robert Shapiro, the Menendez brothers’
lawyer Leslie Abramson and the former John Gotti counselor Bruce
Cutler.
Closing arguments in Spector’s trial were made on
September 7, 2007. On September 26, the jury announced it was deadlocked
(voting 10-2 in favor of conviction) and unable to reach a verdict and
the judge declared a mistrial. However, a retrial began in October 2008,
and April 2009, Spector was convicted of second-degree murder. He was
sentenced to 19 years to life in prison in May 2009. Spector was 69
years old at the time of sentencing, and would be eligible for parole at
age 88.
National Security Council staff member Oliver North
and his secretary, Fawn Hall, begin shredding documents that would have
exposed their participation in a range of illegal activities regarding
the sale of arms to Iran and the diversion of the proceeds to a rebel
Nicaraguan group. On November 25, North was fired but Hall continued to
sneak documents to him by stuffing them in her skirt and boots. The
Iran-Contra scandal, as it came to be known, became an embarrassment and
a sticky legal problem for the Reagan administration.
Only six years earlier, Iran had become an enemy of the United States after taking hostages at the U.S. embassy in Tehran. At the time, Ronald Reagan
had repeatedly insisted that the United States would never deal with
terrorists. When the revelation surfaced that his top officials at the
National Security Council had begun selling arms to Iran, it was a
public relations disaster.
During the televised Iran-Contra hearings, the public learned that
the money received for the arms was sent to support the Contras in
Nicaragua, despite Congress' Boland Amendment, which expressly
prohibited U.S. assistance to the Contras. Though the communist
Sandinistas had been legitimately elected in Nicaragua, the Reagan
administration sought to oust them by supporting the Contras, an
anti-Communist group.
During the Iran-Contra hearings, North claimed that the entire Reagan
administration had known about the illegal plan. After admitting that
he had lied to Congress, he was convicted of shredding documents,
obstruction of justice, and illegally receiving a security fence for his
own residence. He received a light sentence of a fine, probation, and
community service.
A year later in July 1990, an appellate court voted 2-1 to overturn
his conviction based on the possibility that some of the evidence may
have come from testimony that Congress had immunized in their own
hearings on the matter. President Reagan and Vice President George Bush maintained that they had no knowledge of the scheme.
Petulant:
1: Insolent or rude in speech or behavior. 2: Characterized by temporary or capricious ill humor : peevish.
Uncle Harold is a petulant & fussy man who is always blaming everyone else for his problems.
"Petulant is one of many English words that are related to the Latin verb petere, which means "to go to," "to attack," "to seek," or "to request." Petere is a relative of the Latin adjective petulans ("impudent"), from which "petulant" was derived. Some other words with connections to petere are "compete" & "appetite." Competere, the Late Latin precursor to "compete," is a combination of the prefix "com-" & the verb petere. The joining of ad- & petere led to apperere ("to strive after"), & eventually to Latin appetitus, the source of our "appetite." Additional descendants of petere are "petition," "perpetual," & "impetus."
Problem with buying a short sale is that the people in the mortgage company who are working short sales have stacks & stacks of files on their desks. They're completely overworked. A percentage of them were incompetent to start with. Now they're overworked & incompetent. The other percentage is just overworked.
Put enough money in your budget for car repairs. A standard car repair shouldn't be an emergency. An engine blowing up or a transmission going out would be an emergency, but not ongoing maintenance & repairs. Cars break. That's just part of owning them.
Scilicet:
To wit or namely.
"All appointments must be approved by the U.S.S., scilicet, the President of the U.S.," stated the bill concerning the restructuring of the island's government.
"Scilicet" is a rare word that most frequently occurs in legal proceedings & instruments. It's from latin scire ("to know") & licet ("it is permitted"), which is also a root of "videlicet" - a synonym of "scilicet." Licet, in turn, descents from the Latin verb licere, which means "to be permitted" & is the ultimate source of the English words "leisure" & "license." Scire has also made other contributions to English, giving us such words as "conscience," "conscious," & "science."

Lopez and Marc Anthony. Cruise and Holmes's whirlwind courtship was
obsessively chronicled in the tabloid press and their wedding created an
international media frenzy.
Cruise, the star of such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun" and "Mission: Impossible," and Holmes, who until then was best known for her role as Joey Potter on the popular teen-oriented TV series "Dawson's Creek," first appeared together publicly as a couple in the spring of 2005. That May, Cruise went on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and generated headlines by jumping on the host's couch and expressing his love for Holmes, who is 16 years his junior. The following month, the two actors, dubbed "TomKat" by the media, became engaged in Paris. Around the same time, Cruise sparked controversy for his impassioned advocacy of Scientology as well as his public criticism of anti-depressant drugs and psychiatry. That fall, Cruise and Holmes announced they were having a baby. Their daughter Suri was born April 18, 2006, and the couple wed seven months later.
Cruise, who was born on July 3, 1962, made his feature film debut at the age of 18 in "Endless Love" (1981), which was followed by "Taps" (1981) and "The Outsiders" (1983). After a breakthrough performance in the 1983 hit "Risky Business," he won international fame for his role as fighter pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in 1986's "Top Gun." Cruise received his first Academy Award nomination, for best actor, for his performance as the Vietnam veteran and anti-war activist Ron Kovic in "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989). His second Oscar nomination came for his portrayal as a sports agent in "Jerry Maguire" (1996); a third nomination followed for Cruise's performance as a self-help guru in Paul Thomas Anderson's ensemble drama "Magnolia" (1999). Cruise's numerous film credits also include "The Color of Money" (1986), with Paul Newman; "Rain Man" (1988), with Dustin Hoffman; "A Few Good Men" (1992), with Jack Nicholson; "The Firm" (1993); and "Interview with the Vampire: the Vampire Chronicles" (1994). He starred as superspy Ethan Hunt in 1996's "Mission: Impossible," and reprised his role in the hit 2000, 2006 and 2011 sequels. Other Cruise movies include "Minority Report" (2002) and "War of the Worlds" (2005), both of which were directed by Steven Spielberg.
Prior to tying the knot with Holmes, Cruise was married to the actress Mimi Rogers ("Someone to Watch Over Me," "The Door in the Floor") from 1987 to 1990. Cruise acted in three films with Nicole Kidman, to whom he was married from 1990 to 2001: "Days of Thunder" (1990), "Far and Away" (1992) and "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999).
Katie Holmes, who was born on December 18, 1978, made her big-screen debut in director Ang Lee's critically acclaimed "The Ice Storm" (1997), featuring Tobey Maguire. Holmes went on to star in the teen drama "Dawson's Creek" from 1998 to 2003; she has also appeared in such films as "Go" (1999), "Wonder Boys" (2000), "Phone Booth" (2002), "Pieces of April" (2003), "Batman Begins" (2005), "Thank You for Smoking" (2005) and "Mad Money" (2008).
On June 28, 2012, after more than five years of marriage, Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise. Two weeks later, on July 9, it was announced the couple had reached a divorce settlement.

Your adult child & their significant other are students at a nearby college, & you've invited them to spend Thanksgiving break with you. The problem is, they've been living together for 6 months, a situation you're not happy with. How should you handle the sleeping arrangements>
Parents have a right to insist that their standards be observed in their own home. Before the visit, let your child know what the sleeping arrangements will be: "We're really looking forward to your visit. You can stay in your old room & Becky can stay in the guest room." Stand your ground. Just be sure to let your feelings be known from the start - not when they & their significant other are carrying their bags into the house.
