OK, so this is going to be the mother of all blogs & it will be MOSTLY all Seasons stuff. I skipped breakfast yesterday because I was too busy making egg salad for breakfast another day. I checked my horoscope & no predictions of an untimely death, so I decided it was safe to do the housework. LOL! I cleaned the tub, neatened my end table, fed the cats & dogs, dusted the dining room blinds, moved stuff from one cabinet to another (the kids always put
stuff away in the wrong place), changed the afghan on my living room chair, did a load of laundry, Kyle mopped the living room, dusted the activity stuff in my office, & swept the bathroom. After all that Kyle made me lunch & then I checked eBay, the mail, & knitted the next to last panel on the knitting machine (1 to go!). I checked Twitter & the Win8 Store, & then it was Sims time! OK, I made a bunch of changes in the game settings for Seasons.
The normal Sim life span is 90 days. I changed that to 100 days & tried to set it up so that it's as realistic as possible with 1 game day = 1 year IRL. SO ... with that in mind, the duration of ages are as follows: Baby: 2 days/years, Toddler: 5 days/years, Child: 9 days/years, Teen: 4 days/years, Young Adult: 20 days/years, Adult: 26 days/years, & Elder: 34 days/years. Total lifespan is 100 days/years. Now what to do with the seasons? You can turn some
seasons off if you don't want them, but of course I want all of them! I think the default is 7 days & some people were saying they were going to turn them down to 5. Well, after careful consideration I decided to take my 100 day lifespan & divide the 4 seasons into them equally. That's 25 days per season. This way, you have plenty of time to fully enjoy each season & each festival taking into account school, work, & household priorities. You
can actually master things like roller skating before it disappears & you have different stuff take its place. More on that later. Anyway, I like the 25 day seasons, it matches the way I play. With seasons, you get fog, snow, rain, & hail. You also get blueprints now in Build/Buy mode which is a cool way to add a fully furnished room to your home quickly. I still prefer to do everything myself, but if I'm in a hurry, blueprints are a nice touch! We now also
have fairgrounds. This is where you will go to the summer, fall, winter, & spring festivals. I worked on LizC864 11 & will finish it the next time I load the game. I only have the media room left & then the lot will be uploaded to TS3. The 1st game I played with the Seasons expansion pack was my Business game. Everyone in this game becomes a CEO of a Mega Corporation. When I started up the game, it was Summer ... 53° at 11:p. I like how it
always shows you the current temperature & how many days until the next season. My Sim visited the Summer Festival. Lots of fun! The festival is open from 8:a-9:p & there's always country music blasting from speakers around the park. You can have water balloon fights, buy an assortment of food from the concession stand, go rollerskating, launch fireworks, get your face painted, get a sno cone, enter a hot dog eating contest, play soccer, get your
photo taken in the photo booth, & turn in your tickets for some cool prizes! There's more than just rain, it can be light rain, normal rain, heavy rain, & in the fall, WOW does it thunderstorm! Sounds great when you have your PC hooked up to a full stereo system like I do. The cracks of thunder even scared my real life dogs! A new interaction with your mailbox is "Send love letter to ..." I haven't tried that one yet. You can now check the weather on the TV
or PC. Very cool! it's current conditions with a 5 day forecast. My 3rd gen Sim for this game is Harry Schmidt. He's perceptive, clumsy, a Virgo that likes roots music, Dim Sum, & the color Spiceberry. He's also neurotic & hot headed. Yeah, he's just a blast to work with. LOL! If your Sim isn't dressed properly for the weather or is out in the rain too long, they can catch a cold. It's a -10 negative moodlet that lasts for 2 days. They've also introduced aliens to
this game. I saw someone wandering around in my back yard so I paused the game & zoomed in to see who it was. They were green, wearing a space suit, & had pointy ears. WTH?! I clicked on them & I couldn't even begin to try to pronounce the name. Everything was shaded, it said they were going home. OK, where is home for this weird looking dude? I followed them & the walked around the back of the house, down the side, & to the road. They
motioned for their car & it was a futuristic looking thing that hovered over the street. I was finally starting to figure out that this must be some kind of alien. The car started to spin in a cool way, then lifted straight up off the street, got about roof height & then suddenly shot off the screen at a right angle. SWEET! My Sim Harry has met Marisol Fink at school & WAS going to marry her, but she got stuck as a permanent child as I've seen happen many times lately. he
never met any girls in high school, so now he's alone & when he starts work in the business field he'll meet & marry someone from there. There are holidays now, too. The summer holiday is called Leisure Day. In my game it falls on a Tuesday & there's no work, no school. Just a day off to enjoy! There's also a new food ... pumpkin pie! That was as far as I got in that game last night. When I woke up this morning, I loaded up Northmont. One of my recently
created homes/lots. It was an empty home still, so I created Scarlet, my 1st gen Sim to play this home. She's a heavy sleeper, loner, no sense of humor, coward, & inappropriate. Being that she had no useful traits, I had her lifetime wish to be CEO of a Mega Corporation. The only job that requires NO skills. Funny! Political statement from the people at EA? She likes stir-fry, custom music, & the color hot pink. She's a Capricorn. During this game, I
learned that besides colds, Sims can also have allergies. You can use some of your lifetime happiness points to buy "Simmunity" which makes you less likely to get colds or allergies. Scarlet's furry companion is Kira, a large Greyhound who's lazy, aggressive, & destructive. When the game started I wanted to play fall this time around. The way you start with a season other than summer with is the season ALL games start with, is you turn summer OFF &
then you play 2 days of summer & it turns to fall for the set duration which in my games is 25 days. Once it was officially fall, I went back into the game settings & turned summer back on so it will actually BE summer when it's time again. I'll start the next game in the winter ... again by going into the setting & this time turning off summer AND fall, forcing the game into winter, then going back in & turning summer & fall back ON so they're back in
the queue. Fall started out with 39° at 12:29a. Brrr! Almost the exact same as here IRL. Neat! My 2nd day at work I got a notification that it was my 1 year anniversary on the job. I also got my 1st promotion. Hmmm ... sounds about right. 1 year, 1 promotion. God I love this game! Scarlet met Gunther Goth at work & married him. Normally I would have moved to Goth Manor, but I already have a game based there & Northmont is such a pretty
house. We moved into my place. Scarlet & Gunther had a son, Michael Goth (2nd gen). He's easily impressed, good, a Capricorn who likes Latin music, pancakes, & the color purple. He's a workaholic. This will be extremely useful once he starts school & will serve him very well at work, too. Even though I played MANY game days, I managed to only get to the fall festival only twice. Once with Scarlet & once with Michael. It thunderstorms violently EVERY
day! WOW! Just 2 days of good weather so far. Is this Sunset Valley or Seattle?! I don't like the fall festival as much. There isn't as much to do. I mean, there's stuff to do, but nothing you can skill up on like roller skating, water balloon fights, or soccer. The fall festival has pop music playing instead of the summer country music. You can harvest pumpkins & also fruit trees around the park, there's a haunted house ... which Scarlet hated ... she's a coward & she came
out of the haunted house as a ghost! I thought it killed her. It wore
off a few hours later. Turns out she was cursed by a witch inside the
haunted house. Michael didn't have any issues with the haunted house at all. There's still a concession stand, wildflowers to pick, & sno cones. You can enter a pie eating contest, bob for apples, have your face painted, & get a photo from the photo booth. I'll return to the summer festival a lot, but not so much
the fall festival. Maybe just 1 day per Sim so they can at least tell their friends they went. :) After all this, I'm probably still leaving a lot out. Seasons in my opinion is worth every penny of the $40 I paid for it & I've only seen half of it so far. All my screenshots are from yesterday's summer game. Not much to screenshot in fall unless you wanted gray shots of lots of rain with an occasional white out of a lightning flash. I probably should have gotten a screenshot
of the haunted house, bobbing for apples tank, & pie eating contest table. Other than that, there was nothing new in the fall. The trees are pretty red & orange with some leaves on the ground. :) My Sim has a wish to rake a leaf pile & I'm sure the child will have a wish to jump in said leaf pile. I didn't get that far yet though. Tomorrow morning I'll play winter. I can't wait! Snow! Snowboarding! Ice skating! WOOHOO!! Woohoo in the snow? LOL! OK, that was a
LONG rant about TS3 Seasons. Phew! LOVE IT!! We now return you to your regular programming. :) LCFD Maintenance Tuesday. OH, BTW ... next year I'm getting a CAMARO!!! :P HAPPY DANCE!!! And yes, I'm also keeping my truck.
"Baby Fae," a month-old infant who had received a
baboon-heart transplant, dies at Loma Linda University Medical Center in
Loma Linda, California. The
infant, named Baby Fae by doctors to protect her parents' anonymity,
was born with hypoplastic left-heart syndrome, an almost always fatal
deformity found in newborns in which parts or all of the left side of
the heart is missing. A few days after Baby Fae's birth, Loma Linda
heart surgeon Dr. Leonard L. Bailey convinced Baby Fae's mother to allow
him to try the experimental baboon-heart transplant. Three other humans
had received animal-heart transplants, the last in 1977, but none
survived longer than 3 1/2 days. Bailey argued that an infant with an
underdeveloped immune system would be less likely to reject alien tissue
than an adult.
On October 26, Bailey performed the world's first
baboon-to-human heart transplant, replacing the 14-day-old infant's
defective heart with the healthy, walnut-size heart of a young baboon.
Baby Fae survived the dangerous operation, and her subsequent struggle
for life received international attention. After living longer than any
other human recipient of an animal heart, Baby Fae's body made a
concerted effort to reject the alien transplant. Doctors were forced to
increase dosages of an immuno-suppressive drug, which caused kidney
failure. Ultimately, doctors were defeated by the swift onset of heart
failure, and on November 15 Baby Fae died, after holding on for 20 days.
Count your blessings. Focusing on what's going well in your life will give you perspective & make you feel better.
Don't buy the lie that the sky is falling. Smart people are so sure that it's not falling that they're buying real estate as fast as they can. They're confident that within the next 5 years, these real estate values will recover & then some. Yes, there are some problems & the short sales & foreclosures will continue to drag the market down as far as value. But when those are worked through, we're going to see some pretty quick escalation in reasonable neighborhoods in reasonable cities that don't have structural problems to their economy.

Which of these words do you think has the same root as "enjoin"?
a. entelechy b. joy c. junta d. purloin
It might help if we tell you that "enjoin" derives ultimately from the verb jungere, which means "to join." Jungere is behind a number of English words, including "join," "conjoin," "disjoin," & "junction." Are you ready for the answer? The correct choice is "junta," a term that entered English by way of Spanish. A junta is a committee that controls a government, especially after a revolutionary seizure of power - in other words, a group of persons "joined" together for a specific purpose.
