Some of the great things about this country are your ability to speak freely, have an opinion, & vote. I respect diversity, I respect other people's opinions, I respect that we have differences. But sometimes, it's SO difficult to keep my mouth shut! I saw a post today from a friend of mine dissing my political party & another friend of mine "liked" the message. It took so much willpower not to get involved & jump in there with my point of view ... "educating" them as to why I believed they're wrong. Explaining every point, etc. BUT ... I managed to keep quiet. Rather than go into this tirade on their status, I simply found the flip side of their post & put it on MY status. Kinda like a he said she said type of thing. Now I feel better, I didn't get involved in a political debate which has been known to end friendships, & hopefully by the end of the day we'll still be friends. :) I have a rule, never talk about religion or politics. Of course this time of year that's REALLY difficult, especially during a presidential election year. My party lost the election & as long as it was lost fair & square, I'm good with it. That's WHY we vote. The majority won & this time I wasn't part of the majority. That's OK. I'm disappointed, sure ... but I'm not angry because my side lost. I just hope the majority knows what they're doing. BOY DO I HOPE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING! If all else fails, there's always Norway. :) Yesterday was a nice day. A lot got done around here. I went through the Sunday paper, we picked Josh up from work & bought a roast chicken for lunch & I made stuffing to go along with it, then I checked facebook & my e-mail & then knitted another panel on the knitting machine. 2 more panels to go & this beautiful red & white afghan will be finished. After the knitting is done I'm going to crochet borders along the top & bottom. I can't wait until it's finished. This is definitely going to be one of the nicer ones I've made! While I was doing that, the boys got a lot of work done around the house. Well, Pete & Kyle did, not sure what Josh did. He & I are having some issues with housework this past week. Anyway, Pete took down most of the fencing that needed to come down & stacked the panels neatly so we can break them down into manageable sizes later. Kyle did a lot of the mopping, washed my truck & cleaned out the interior. He also got to drive it a few feet & surprisingly he didn't drive it through the house. LOL! Anyway, later in the evening I checked Twitter & YouTube & asked Kyle to clean his closet. To finish up the day we had a quick dinner & watched 3 weeks' worth of 666 Park Avenue that got backed up on the DVR. Not one of Pete's favorite shows, so we watch it when he runs out of stuff he likes on the DVR. LOL! This morning I updated a bunch of apps on my phone from the past week & that brings us to now. A nice cool autumn day in Texas. Happy Monday! If you disagree because it's "back to work" for you, be happy you have a job to go to & a paycheck coming in. It truly IS a happy Monday. If you're looking for work, don't give up. You'll find something. Just don't be too picky. Take whatever you can just to finally be employed ... you can always keep searching for something better on your days off. Shovel horse poop for now if you have to. At least it pays the bills! Milligan Water meeting tonight.

In what military conflict did a woman lead U.S. troops into combat for the first time?

Milquetoast:
A timid, meek, or unassertive person.
Brian was such a milquetoast that he agreed to work extra hours on Sunday even though he had already told his boss that he needed that day off.
Caspar Milquetoast was a comic strip character created in 1924 by the American cartoonist Harold T. Webster. The strip, called "The Timid Soul," ran every Sunday in the New York Herald Tribune for many years. Caspar's last name might remind you of "milk toast," a bland concoction of buttered toast served in a dish of warm milk. Webster, who claimed that Milquetoast was a self-portrait, summed up the character as "the man who speaks softly & gets hit with a big stick." "Milquetoast" became a generic synonym for "timid person" from the mid-1930s onward.

Those of us experienced in real estate investing know that's not true. There are vacancies, advertising costs, attorney fees, eviction costs, & a bunch of other expenses that affect your net cash flow.

Scott Peterson convicted (2004):
On this day in 2004, Scott Peterson is convicted of murdering his wife Laci and their unborn son. A jury of six men and six women delivered the verdict 23 months after Laci Peterson, who was pregnant, disappeared on Christmas Eve from Modesto, California. The case captivated millions across America and saturated national media coverage for almost two years.
When initially questioned about his wife's whereabouts, Peterson claimed that Laci had disappeared sometime after leaving the house to walk their dog and after he left on a fishing trip to nearby San Francisco Bay. About one month later, Amber Frey, a 28-year-old massage therapist from Fresno, California, came forward to tell police that she'd had an affair with Scott Peterson, shattering his image as a devoted husband to his pretty and pregnant wife. As police continued to search for Laci and clues that might explain her disappearance, Scott Peterson sold her sports-utility vehicle, leading to suspicions that he might be trying to get rid of evidence.
The bodies of Laci and her baby were found washed up on shore near the marina where Scott Peterson kept his boat on April 13 and 14, 2003. Within a week, Scott Peterson was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with the special circumstance of double homicide, which opened the door for prosecutors to seek the death penalty. He was arrested in San Diego carrying large amounts of cash and his brother's passport, and with a new hair color and cut, seemingly on the verge of running from police.
Soon after pleading not guilty to the charges, Peterson retained the legal services of well-known celebrity attorney Mark Geragos. His trial began on June 1, 2004. Over the course of the next 19 weeks, prosecutors introduced 174 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence designed to paint Scott Peterson as a cold and heartless man who continued to lie and cheat on his wife even as he appeared on television feigning despair over her disappearance. They pointed out how he referred to himself as a widower even before his wife's body had been found. The prosecution's case was hampered, however, by the fact that they had no eyewitness to the crime and had not found a weapon. Meanwhile, Geragos worked to convince the jury of an alternate scenario in which someone else had murdered Laci while she was walking the dog, then framed Scott after learning of his alibi from the news. Peterson did not take the stand.
Finally on this day in 2004, after seven days of deliberation that involved the replacement of two jurors, Scott Peterson was convicted of the first-degree murder of his wife and the second-degree murder of his unborn son. He was unemotional during the reading of the verdict, which was greeted with cheers and celebration by Laci's friends in the audience and the hundreds of supporters waiting outside the courthouse.
On March 16, 2005, Scott Peterson was formally sentenced to death by lethal injection.

Skiers die in cable-car fire (2000):
A cable car taking skiers to a glacier in Austria catches fire on this day in 2000 as it passes through a mountain tunnel; 156 people die. Only 11 people managed to survive the fire, which was caused by an illegal space heater.
Kitzsteinhorn Mountain in the Austrian Alps is a popular skiing and snowboarding destination located just south of Salzburg. In order to reach the mountain's prime skiing locations, it is necessary to take a cable car from the town of Kaprun into the mountains and through a 2.5-mile tunnel. The 90-foot-long car is pulled by a cable along train-like tracks.
On the morning of November 11, the car left at 9 a.m. for its journey up the mountain; within two minutes, flames were spotted shooting from the car. The cable car had just entered the concrete shaft tunnel when a disruption indicator, part of the car's safety system, automatically stopped it. Quickly, the tunnel filled with toxic smoke, but the doors wouldn't open. In the back of the car, a man smashed the rear window Plexiglas and 11 people were able to crawl out the back to a stairway that led several hundred yards down to the entrance.
The other passengers were not so fortunate. Although some passengers were able to make it out of the front of the car and attempted to climb to the top of the tunnel, the tunnel acted as a chimney sending flames and smoke straight up. In fact, the driver of the corresponding car coming down the tunnel was burned near the exit at the top. Three other people who were near the top of the tunnel also burned to death.
The fire burned all day, as it was not until that evening that workers could get to the train. Once there, they encountered bodies that were burned and charred beyond recognition. One worker later said "I don't want to describe it for the sake of the families." An inquiry into the fire's cause revealed that a space heater in the driver's cabin had caused the hydraulic oil in a pipe to overheat and leak on to a plastic seat, where it ignited.
