September 25, 2012

Remember I had to pick Kyle up from school yesterday because he wasn't feeling well? My loving son decided to thank me by sharing. LOL! I've wiped out half a box of Kleenex already, taken DayQuil yesterday, NyQuil last night, & I'm off to take more DayQuil now. Why do we always tend to catch a cold when it's most beautiful outside? Spring & fall ... the temps are wonderful yet you feel terrible because you have a spring or fall cold. When it's 108° outside, we feel great but it's too hot to go outside & enjoy it. Same in the winter except it's 8° outside (not here in Texas, but you get the idea). But when it's in the 70s & 80s ... bam. A cold. To make matters worse, it's Tuesday which means I'm supposed to be at the station tonight. Do I go & bring my box of Kleenex & infect the rest of the department or do I ditch & miss a Tuesday night? I'm telling you right now, if I don't feel better by this evening ... I ain't goin'. I already texted the chief. As it is I have to stop by the station later to do something real quick on my way to drive Josh to work. I just hope I don't give Josh my cold in the process. Yesterday turned out a little better then the day before. I picked Kyle up from school almost as soon as I woke up, came back, blogged, & then did very light housework. I only dusted off my alarm clock, fed the cats & dogs, blew the dust out of my knitting machine, & swept the bedroom. Kyle helped out with the rest which consisted of dusting the living room lights & ceiling fan & mopping the living room. Thank you Kyle! I cleared out a week's worth of email in my AOL account, snagged some cool tubes, frames, & tags from my PSP group over there, shared a cool background, & then rolled over to my knitting machine & made a panel. Pete was extremely helpful & got off work earlier than usual drove Josh into McKinney for me. If he didn't, I would have never been able to finish the panel or load up Sims, one of the houses I created ... which was only for a very short time ... about 3 game days which is less than 45 minutes real time. The damn game glitched again & my new puppy that I adopted ended up under the earth, under the house. No way to pull her out. She's red-lining from hunger, loneliness, & everything else. Just before I closed the game for the night I got the notification that because she's not being taken care of properly, they're going to be forced to take ALL the pets from the home. Great. The game glitches, I can't do anything about it, & I lose my newly adopted puppy AND the dog I created when I started the game. Once that happens, you can't get them back. I have to wait until the generation(s) that are alive now & considered responsible (or irresponsible in this case) die off before a future generation can adopt another pet & try again. As if that isn't bad enough, my Sim's wife is a vampire. She's going to live a VERY long time. Their newborn son, the 2nd generation for this game, has a 50/50 chance of becoming a vampire himself. He's too young to know yet. When 1 parent is a vampire & 1 parent isn't, sometimes the transformation happens, sometimes it doesn't. LCFD training tonight at the station.

Cancel magazines, newspaper, or catalog subscriptions you don't enjoy or don't make time to enjoy. Save yourself money & eliminate the guilt of not reading them. Spend time doing things you have to get done & things you enjoy.

Giving a party can be enjoyable, especially if you approach it with simplicity. Get help if necessary, & don't let your guests think you're huffing & puffing. They'll feel far more comfortable if they don't have to wonder whether they're causing you trouble.

Hold a talent night. It's a great way for kids to show off their singing, dancing, & more.

I don't want to say you're phony, but your __________ is made out of __________.

IRA officially disarms (2005):
Two months after announcing its intention to disarm, the Irish Republican Army (IRA) gives up its weapons in front of independent weapons inspectors. The decommissioning of the group s substantial arsenal took place in secret locations in the Republic of Ireland. One Protestant and one Catholic priest as well as officials from Finland and the United States served as witnesses to the historic event. Automatic weapons, ammunition, missiles and explosives were among the arms found in the cache, which the head weapons inspector described as "enormous."
Originally founded in 1919 to militarily oppose British rule in Ireland, the IRA had operated since about the 1960s as the military arm of Sinn Fein, the Irish nationalist political party. The IRA (and splinter groups using various derivatives of the name) had used terrorist tactics and assassinations for more than 30 years in their struggle to free Northern Ireland from British rule.
In April 1998, after more than 22 months of negotiating, a 67-page peace accord called the Belfast or Good Friday Agreement was finally signed. Endorsed by the British and Irish governments, eight of Northern Ireland s ten political parties, and the region s voters, the agreement included power-sharing among Catholics and Protestants in government, a commitment to peace and democracy, and a pledge by paramilitary groups on both sides to decommission their weapons within two years. A ceasefire had been in place since 1997, and although they continued to abide by it, the IRA initially refused to give up their weapons. This stalled the peace process for almost six years.
Although many Northern Irish Protestants did not trust that the IRA was truly giving up all of its weapons, the disarmament represented an important step toward lasting peace in the long-troubled region. In the aftermath of the disarmament, IRA splinter groups threatened to continue the violence.

Nyctophobia is an abnormal fear of what?
A. Spiders
B. Night/darkness
C. Black objects
D. Cows
Answer: B. Night/darkness

Quail:
1: To give way : falter. 2: To recoil in dread or terror : cower.
Rather than quail in front of the menacing bully, Timothy looked him squarely in the eye & told him to move out of the way.
"Flinch," "recoil," & "wince" are all synonyms of "quail," but each word has a slightly different use. When you flinch, you fail to endure pain or to face something dangerous or frightening with resolution ("she flinched when she pulled off the bandage"). "Recoil" implies a start or movement away from something through shock, fear, or disgust ("he recoiled at the suggestion of stealing"). "Wince" usually suggests a slight involuntary physical reaction to something ("she winced as the bright light suddenly hit her eyes"). And "quail" implies shrinking & cowering in fear ("he quailed before the apparition").

What movie’s familiar Oscar-nominated theme song is titled “Gonna Fly Now”?

What's unique—and almost certain to be obvious—about an acersecomic person?
He or she has never had their hair cut. (Personal note: I never get my hair cut, but you'd never know it because it's permanently the length it is now ... all my life. It grows, I can see that it does from whenever I've colored it & you can see the original color grow out, but I guess it just breaks off or something as it grows. I don't get it, but you'll never see my hair longer than it is now which is shoulder length. Very VERY odd).

Which is the main, 2nd, & 3rd component of air?
A. Oxygen
B. Nitrogen
C. Argon
BAC. All animals need oxygen to survive, but not too much. Nitrogen is necessary to prevent breathing excessive oxygen, which causes oxygen toxicity. And that's all I know about that.

Which snake is the most, 2nd most, & 3rd most dangerous?
A. Copperhead
B. Cottonmouth
C. Rattlesnake

Who was TIME magazine's Person of the Century in 1999?
A. Adolph Hitler
B. Albert Einstein
C. Franklin D. Roosevelt
D. Alfred Nobel

You can't depend on the news to set the tone of your investing. It will freak you out. Don't invest in a 401(k) or Roth IRA or good growth stock mutual funds unless you're going to have a strong enough backbone to ride the rollercoaster down & up. That's what rollercoasters do. it's a smooth start, a steep uphill & a fall straight down. It's scary - & sometimes kind of fun. No one gets hurt on a rollercoaster except those who jump off.
