Happy Labor Day! I live right outside of Dallas but do I ever go there? Nope. Maybe I should go downtown once in a while. See what's there. Spend some time enjoying the city that I live so close to. :) Yesterday was productive but expensive. I went through the Sunday paper & checked out all the ads, then we went for a drive to get some stuff done. We went to Academy so I could pick up my new pair of shoes for the winter. The 1st day of fall is usually when I start walking a mile & a half every day until it gets too cold out. Then I wear the shoes all winter, then walk again in the spring until it gets too warm. Then I wear the shoes on FD calls all summer. By the next fall, they're pretty worn out & they become my backup pair of shoes for when I'm working around the house or it's muddy outside. After the shoes we drove over to the Olive Garden so I could talk to the manager there, but he's off for Labor Day weekend. I'll call him Tuesday morning. Then after thinking about things for a bit, I decided that although we would really really LIKE a new sofa, I really really NEED new tires.
So the sofa idea is out the window (for now) & instead I got 4 brand new 265 tires on my truck. They look good & the truck drives great. I was able to set the
cruise control & never touch the brake once on a local street (my
gauge for how good/bad my tires are). The last time I had the cruise
control set on that street, I fishtailed around one of the bends &
that was my cue that I needed tires. They were all near bald & 1 of
them had a large screw stuck in it & had a very slow leak. It was
time. City council meeting tomorrow.
Tony (Lee Holmes), an introverted singer who fears performing publicly,
forms an indie rock band with a gregarious drummer (Matthew Hennessey),
stoner guitarist (Kevin Corrigan) and unstable bassist (Steve
Parlavecchio). Together, they encounter tension, temptation and turmoil
out on tour. But as their group plays gigs and wins over fans, the
bandmates struggle with annoying rivalries, bitter infighting and an
untrustworthy record company.

Xanadu:
An idyllic, exotic, or luxurious place.
To Arthur, the beach house was a Xanadu, the perfect spot for the romantic tropical vacation he had dreamed of for years.
"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan / A stately pleasure-dome decree." Those lines are from the poem "Kubla Khan" published in 1816 by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Coleridge's fantastic description of an exotic utopia fired his readers' imaginations & ultimately contributed to the transition of "Xanadu" from a proper name to a generalized term for an idyllic place. The Xanadu in the poem was inspired by Shang-tu, the summer residence of Mongolian general & statesman Kublai Khan (grandson of Genghis Khan). You might also recognize "Xanadu" as the name of the fantastic estate in Orson Welles's 1941 film Citizen Kane.
