September 15, 2012

Ever have one of those days where you finally crash from working your butt off all week? I had one of those today. I slept until 1 PM & then had to drive Josh to work, came back home & went BACK to sleep & slept until 7:30 *PM*. Holy crap! That's a sure sign that I worked too hard all week & a sure sign that I could sure use some help around here. 4 people live here & I'm killing myself keeping this place as nice as I can for everyone. At least Pete helped out by doing a load of dishes tonight. The kids though, Kyle & Josh ... HELP! You live here, DO something here! Pay rent or work around the house. It's morally wrong of both of you to do neither. I'm old, I'm tired, & you're making ME do it all? What are you thinking? ARE you thinking? Do I LOOK like your slave? Slavery was abolished long ago. You guys went to school, you both know that. I shouldn't be so physically wiped out that I can sleep until 7:30 PM on a Saturday. Do you feel NO guilt over this? Yesterday I scrubbed the bathroom toilet, had to take a quick break & spot myself with ChiggerX, fed the cats & dogs, de-cobwebbed the dining room corner where it was so bad that it looked like a scene from arachnophobia & dusted the corner shelving, checked the kitchen smoke alarm, checked the Brinks alarm, mopped the entryway, replaced the closet light in my office, closed the fence gate, & swept the living room. I then did a little PSPX4 stuff, finished the panel I had started the day before, & crawled into the Matrix. I discovered I don't like the Stylist career. All you do is spend time in the Create A Sim screen picking out clothes & hairstyles. It's not my thing & it's impossible to have multiple generations of Sims all have that job. You can only work with 1 at a time & so the other doesn't ever go to work that day. The child is school-aged & I have to spend my time with her (Kira) so now both parents aren't working. She's supposed to be in the same profession as they all are supposed to be in this game, so I may just end up scrapping it. Not my thing & too hard to manage an entire household while you're in Create A Sim the whole time doing makeovers. Anyway, Pete got home & we went to bed around our usual time. The rest is explained at the beginning of this blog. I slept until 1, took Josh to work, came back & slept until 7:30 at night. Then I left to pick Kyle & Josh up from work, both in different directions, & we get toned out to a med call. Missed ANOTHER one! Josh works at Market Street & that place is NICE. I've never been in one & it was impressive. Very clean, very pretty, & they have an upstairs & a cooking school (I wanna go!). They also have items I like that can't be found anywhere else like Jumbo Pop in the 6-pack, A&W Cream Soda, Pumpernickel / Rye Swirl bread, etc. I just got back home, put the groceries away, paid my bills & at this moment it's 11:07p. WOW! LCFD business meeting Tuesday.

A Bible school instructor abducts a teenage girl (1990):
Thirteen-year-old Melissa Benoit disappears in her hometown of Kingston, Massachusetts, on her way home from a friend's house. Although the town detective talked to everyone who lived on the path between the two houses, no one admitted to having seen Benoit. Soon afterward, the FBI joined the search. Yet, despite their use of tracking dogs, there was still no sign of the young girl.
In an unusual move, the FBI asked neighbors to take polygraph tests. Henry Meinholz, a local Bible school instructor who took the test, did not appear to be truthful. Perhaps in an attempt to deflect suspicion, he later claimed that he had failed the polygraph because he often fantasized about molesting little girls. He also admitted to the agents that he had followed girls and masturbated in his car in the past.
The FBI immediately began a thorough search of his house, where investigators found Benoit's body under a pile of dirt and coal in the basement. Meinholz confessed to rape and murder, claiming that voices in his head had commanded him to kill.
According to his account, a voice (which became the center of his insanity defense) said, "You're not a man unless you have her. Do it!" However, after a short trial, the jury rejected his defense and convicted him of first-degree murder. When he issued a life sentence without parole, the judge stated, "It is said that my predecessors in colonial times had a gallows erected on the green in front of this courthouse and summarily sent defendants convicted, as you have been, to be hanged. I truly regret that option is not open to me in this case."

Don't kill yourself to put your kid into a private school because you're looking for safety. There are no cocoons. There are no spiritually safe places.

Effulgence:
Radiant splendor: brilliance.
The effulgence of the moon in the clear midnight sky provided enough light to help us safely make our way home.
English-speakers took a shine to this word in the middle of the 17th century, when the word 1st appeared in print. "Effulgence" derives from the Latin verb fulgere, which means "to shine." Fulgere is also the root of "fulgent," a synonym of "radiant" that English-speakers have used since the 15th century. Another related word, "refulgence," carries a meaning similar to "effulgence" but sometimes goes further by implying reflectivity.

Grasp the other person's hand with a firm grip when shaking hands - but neither too limp nor with a bone-crunching squeeze. A correct handshake lasts about 3 seconds. The clasped hands are pumped 2 or 3 times, after which you let go & step back. If you think it sounds silly to mention a specific number of pumps, do remember the last time someone hung onto your hand for a seemingly endless time & you wondered if they would ever let go.
