Good morning! When I woke up it was dark, stormy, & raining. Now it's sunny & warming up. Yesterday was another busy day, but a good one. I started out with cross stitching & that project is coming along nicely. When I finished, I got ready to go pick Josh up from work, but as I reached for my jacket the phone rang & it was an important call that lasted a little over an hour. The call was important enough that I didn't want to multi-task with driving at the same time, so I ended up being an hour late picking Josh up from work. I also had to make another call on the way to get him, then got home & made another call, then a few minutes after hanging up my phone rang again & I was on another call for a bit. When the phone marathon was over I went to work on eBay & then picked Kyle up from the library. When I got back it was time to check facebook & play a little of the facebook games I like. I found a new game yesterday & spent a little extra time learning it. Now that I understand it better, it'll go quicker today. If you're on facebook & play any one of these games, let me know :) Dice w/ Buddies, Scrabble, Starpires, Words w/ Friends. After facebook I went into the living room & got out my hand knitting, but Pete got home shortly after I got all set up so I put it back away & we started our nighttime routine. The FD got toned out to an odor investigation & wouldn't you know it, I finally get to bed early ... completely exhausted from cutting my sleep short every night since Sunday, & I couldn't sleep. Really? That's not right! I tried for a while but ended up getting back up finally & going to work in my office. I know that's what was keeping me awake anyway. Besides all the normal things I want & need to do & never seem to have time for each day, I ended up finding a LOT of cool things in these boxes I've slowly been unpacking in here. I thought most all of it would be going on eBay. They were my "to be sold" boxes, but apparently there was all kinds of cool stuff mixed in there. Stuff I need to sort though, catalog, put away, etc. Knowing I don't have the time was driving me crazy. WHEN would I ever be able to do all this? Apparently, the answer is; "when I SHOULD be sleeping." What I ended up doing last night was going through a BUNCH of large bottles (they look like prescription bottles but much larger & without the safety caps). They were meant for a specific purpose, but it was decided that they weren't going to be used & they were going to get thrown out. I grabbed them because they were PERFECT for storing beads in. I spent last night very slowly peeling the label off of each & every one of these bottles. When I finally finished peeling the labels off, I sorted out all my beads & started transferring them from the little plastic bags they were in, into the bottles. ONE project done. Now for the rest of the piles of stuff in here. Damn, there's a lot. This is going to take a LONG time to sort & put away. I'm really glad I found all this stuff, but the processing of it all will be very time consuming. Last night's project didn't end until 3-something in the morning & that was just ONE of many out of the boxes I've unpacked so far. I still have a box & a half to go of stuff, so for all I know there's much more. I still don't know what the last huge box holds. I need to finish sorting through the large box that sitting on top of it first. I still got up when I was supposed to today (ok, fine ... I overslept by 4 minutes)! I started out by working on my bead banner. It's looking great & is now over halfway complete. YAY! With my busy life I now understand the saying "eat dessert 1st". I worked on my bead banner FIRST because if today ends up steam rollering me as it has most of this week, at least I will have gotten some time working on the bead banner. HA! Phhhhbt!! Priorities. ;) LCFD Training Tuesday.
CIA operative Aldrich Ames is arrested for selling
secrets to the Soviet Union. Ames had access to the names and identities
of all U.S. spies in Russia, and by becoming a double agent he was
directly responsible for jeopardizing the lives of CIA agents working in
the Eastern bloc. At least 10 men were killed after Ames revealed their
identities, and more were sent to Russian gulags.
Maria del
Rosario Casas Ames, Aldrich's wife, who had been a paid CIA source, was
also charged for her role in accepting approximately $2.5 million (the
most the Soviets ever paid a foreign spy) for providing highly
confidential information to the KGB. It was the Ames' spending that
finally led to their downfall, but for many years no one questioned
their ability to buy expensive cars and homes (paid for with cash) on
his government salary. Ames picked up the cash at secret drops in the Washington, D.C., area and in unauthorized travels to Colombia and Venezuela.
Aldrich
Ames was the biggest success of the Soviet Union's reinvigorated
espionage program. After their invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, the
Russians decided that spying was their best bet for improving their
strategic position vis-a-vis the United States.
Dimitri Yakushkin headed up the effort, and put more emphasis and money
into clandestine operations; his efforts were rewarded when Ames became
a double agent. Ames, who had worked for the CIA full-time since 1962,
and whose main duties had included contacting Soviet sources, was the
crown jewel for Group North. His information destroyed almost the whole
American intelligence program in Russia. Later, a Senate Intelligence
Committee issued a report that harshly criticized the CIA leadership for
their negligence in allowing Ames to get away with his subterfuge for
so long.
Both Ames and his wife were later convicted. Ames was
sentenced to life in prison, while his wife, as part of a plea-bargain
agreement, was a given a five-year sentence.

We each have a number of different roles in our lives - different areas or capacities in which we have responsibility. I may, for example, have a role as an individual, a wife, a mother, a teacher, a fire department member, & a businesswoman. And each of these roles is important.
Writing your mission in terms of the important roles in your life gives you balance & harmony. It keeps each role clearly before you. You can review your roles frequently to make sure that you don't get totally absorbed by one role to the exclusion of others that are equally or even more important in your life.

When you think of Mardi Gras, you probably think of New Orleans. But the 1st carnival celebration was actually in Mobile, Alabama. It began there in 1703, over 15 years before New Orleans was founded.
