✔ January 22, 2013 ☆

Good morning everyone & happy Tuesday. Pete is still home from work, still helping his mom as much as he can from here with the legal aspects of the arrangements & also dealing with the loss of his dad himself. Yesterday we had comfort food for breakfast. Bacon. Nothing else, just cooked up an entire package of bacon. We're just the picture of health aren't we? It sure was good though. After all that bacon we were just plain worn out & took a nap. I was also still tired from waking up to an early phone call from AJ. When we got back out of bed
finally, I went to work on eBay. I packaged up & shipped out what had sold & the items that didn't sell didn't get relisted this time. There's a fee every time you list / relist & if it didn't sell the 1st time around, it's not going to sell the 2nd time around at a higher price (raised to cover the relisting fee). Everything that doesn't sell either gets tossed in the trash, donated, sold at a garage sale, or something. They do NOT go
back on eBay. By the time I was done with all that, I didn't even have time to list anything new. I shut eBay down, checked facebook for the day, & then sank into my massage chair for some relaxing 5 Card Slingo & a massage. After that I called Kyle out into the living room & we watched some of our favorite show on DVD (Whose Line Is It Anyway?) while I worked on the massive latch hook rug I'm making. This is an area rug with an intricate Oriental rug design. I love it! This isn't the kind of rug you walk on when it's finished though. It's going to take me years to complete this one & when it's done it gets hung on a wall. It's going to be beautiful. I'm working it long-ways ... doing the short rows instead of the long ones. I've had this thing for years & only last year opened it up & decided to work on it. I just started row FIVE. I may not finish this before I die. LOL! It's not normal latch hooking, either. It's something called "Real Oriental Knot". All the directions are in German, so thank God they had pictures. LOL! The FD got toned out to a med call, I assigned monthly cleaning, & then loaded up Sims. I completed the laundry room in Breckenridge & then loaded up Chateauroux, I house I built a while back & haven't played since last February. My 1st gen Sim Valerie has a lifetime wish of Physical perfection & has so far made it to level 7 of Athletic & level 5 of Martial Arts. She's over halfway there. When their son aged up to school-age, she turned in lifetime wish points for an inheritance. Useful since it pays out about $30k & she lives in a huge house & doesn't work. Her husband, Marty Keaton has reached level 5 of the Law Enforcement career & when he turned in his lifetime points he decided "No Bills Ever" would be useful. Their son is Rusty Keaton (2nd gen). He's a heavy sleeper, perceptive, & a daredevil. An Aries who likes R & B, French Toast, & the color violet. Since this game started pre-Seasons, when I loaded it up I decided to start out in the spring. It was a cold 45° @ 2:a. After the game I decided to go get Pete & remind him that we hadn't eaten since breakfast. I was going to make a quick dinner but he suggested we go out ... just to get out of the house for a while. We ended up going to Fuddrucker's & while we were out the FD got toned out to a mutual aid structure fire in a neighboring town. When we got home we watched Hawaii 5-0, I came in & took my turns in Words w/ Friends, & then we headed off to bed. It as a good day ... I just wish it was a happier one. Today I saved some notes in AnyTime on the facebook page I admin (not alone, I'm 1 of 5 admins) ... but we're secret admins. No one knows who we are, so that's why I'm not mentioning the name of the page. We're like ... Batman ... secret identities. :) I checked My AT&T / Yahoo page & ended up deleting one of my panels on there ... the Quote of the Day which turned into just an ad. Every "quote" was now a clip from a book that the person who runs that thing is pushing. *DELETE*! It used to be quotes from famous people ... now it's a daily ad? I don't know if the thing was hijacked or the "owner" did it himself, but either way I have no use for or interest in it anymore. I went back several days & each entry was the same. Oh well. Another thought I've been having lately, after watching people for 47 years ...SOMETIMES putting in 110% of your time & effort winds up being all for nothing. SOMETIMES all that time & effort are wasted & the people who hardly ever did ANYTHING or were hardly even THERE make it to the top. It happens in businesses all the time, there are movies all over where that happens. There are people climbing corporate ladders who haven't seen their families in years, only to get passed over by someone else for reasons unknown to them & they end up jumping off a bridge somewhere. Now I'm not saying not to give things your best ... what I'm saying is, when you notice that time & effort is NOT what is appreciated in a specific business ... STOP. Don't waste time & effort where it isn't appreciated. Instead, redirect that time & effort elsewhere, where it IS appreciated. It's never too late to change companies, jobs, or tactics. As I mentioned earlier, Pete is home today, still grieving the loss of his dad, Josh is home sick from work, & Kyle is at school. I'm doing well ... but as great as things are going, it's still a sad time. I'm worried about everyone in the family emotionally & wish there was more I could do to help them ALL through this sad time. AJ broke my heart the most ... she's the youngest daughter (Pete's little sister). She posted on facebook: "Bye Dad :(". I think even the DOG is depressed. I don't know what's with her, but for 4 days in a row she's been over-eating & then barfing (usually on the sofa). She's a large dog, too. This isn't one of our Chihuahuas ... nooo ... this is the American Boxer / Pit Bull mix. I never let her up on MY part of the sofa, but Pete lets her on his side. Well ... 3 days in a row she eats, goes out, comes in, eats again, jumps up on the sofa & yacks. Last night was the final straw. She jumped up on the sofa WHILE Pete was on it & yacked. Almost ON Pete. ALL of our pets have always had food available at all times. They eat when they want. There's never been a problem. That had to change now. Joselyn is not under a feeding schedule with measured food. When I wake up she gets put outside with 1¼ cup of food. 12 hours later, the same thing ... for a total of 2½ cups per day. Let's see how that works for a while. LCFD training tonight @ 7.

Conan O'Brien makes final appearance as 'Tonight Show' host (2010):
On this day in 2010, comedian Conan O’Brien hosts his final episode of “The Tonight Show,” following an announcement by NBC earlier in the month that Jay Leno would return as the host of the long-running, late-night program. The decision to replace O’Brien was met with protests by his fans and became a public-relations debacle for the network.
In its early years “The Tonight Show,” which debuted in 1954, was hosted by entertainers including Steve Allen and Jack Paar. Under Johnny Carson, who assumed hosting duties in 1962, the program, with its opening monologue, celebrity interviews, musical performances and comedy sketches, became a late-night institution for millions of Americans. When Carson retired in 1992 he was replaced by Leno. On September 27, 2004, the 50th anniversary of the show’s launch, NBC announced O’Brien would take over from Leno in 2009.
Born in Massachusetts in 1963, O’Brien graduated from Harvard University and went on to work as a writer for such television shows as “Saturday Night Live” and “The Simpsons.” In 1993, the lanky redhead began hosting his own TV show on NBC, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” which followed “The Tonight Show.” After recording the final “Late Night” show on February 20, 2009, O’Brien and his staff relocated from New York City to Los Angeles for “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien,” which premiered on June 1, 2009.
Meanwhile, Leno went on to helm his own weeknight comedy series in primetime. However, the program earned less-than-stellar ratings, and after a strong start O’Brien’s “Tonight Show” ratings also slumped. In early January 2010, NBC executives proposed rearranging the late-night lineup: Leno would host a half-hour show at 11:35 p.m. ET (the long-standing start time for “Tonight Show”) while “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” would move to 12:05 a.m. O’Brien objected to this plan, publicly stating on January 12:  "I sincerely believe that delaying ‘The Tonight Show’ into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. ‘The Tonight Show’ at 12:05 simply isn’t ‘The Tonight Show.’"
O’Brien’s fans held rallies outside NBC studios in Los Angeles and other U.S. cities and organized an “I’m with CoCo” online support movement. Nevertheless, on January 21 it was reported that O’Brien had reached a deal with NBC worth more than $30 million to leave “The Tonight Show.” His last episode aired the following night and included guests Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell and Neil Young. During the program O’Brien said: “Walking away from ‘The Tonight Show’ is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. …Every comedian dreams of hosting ‘The Tonight Show’ and, for seven months, I got to. I did it my way, with people I love, and I do not regret a second.”
Leno returned as host of “The Tonight Show” on March 1, 2010. On November 8 of that year, O’Brien launched a new late-night program, “Conan,” on cable channel TBS. A book about the “Tonight Show” conflict, titled “The War for Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy” by New York Times reporter Bill Carter, was published that same month.

If you have butterfingers, spring for phone insurance. Theft & water damage aren't covered by most warranties. That $5/mo. or so is worth it. Potential savings: $215/yr. for anyone who has to replace a smart phone every 2 years.

I realize I'm offering a lot of wild office dares in this blog, but 1 thing I won't do is recommend or even suggest any dare that impacts a receptionist. You can mess with the mind of a CEO. You can execute a prank on a CFO. You can do what you will with the dudes on the loading dock. But whatever you do, never ever, ever make life any more difficult for the receptionist than it already is.
