Good morning everyone. Saturday was a good day even though it was a sad one. Pete & I went out to a nice anniversary lunch at the Italian Villa in Allen & then went grocery shopping. I came back & did laundry & watered the bedroom plant, & then unpacked my new (vintage) Knit Wit. I had forgotten how much fun that thing is & how fast I could make squares. I decided to make an EMS themed afghan & found that the quickest way to make the pattern was to get EMS clip art, maximize it on my PC screen, take a piece of graph paper & trace it. I've been really enjoying working on this & if I'm waiting for something on my computer, I can spit out a square fairly quickly here & there & it's small & portable. That night Pete & I went out to our 20th anniversary dinner at BJ's & then came home & watched TV, checked facebook & went to bed. We didn't do much because it was such a sad day. I still
can't believe Pete's Dad is gone. He was diagnosed 4 days ago, but it was already so advanced that they were wrong about the 8 weeks. Sunday morning we Pete, Kyle, & I went out to breakfast at Denny's & then we came home & I dusted the bathroom accents, dusted & neatened my office bookshelf that has my knife collection on it, & then went to work cleaning my truck. It sure needed it. The windshield really
needed cleaning on the inside, the dash was all dusty ... it needed it. It looks much better now even though I didn't finish. My Avon Lady stopped by while I was in the middle of cleaning the truck, so I stopped doing that, chatted with her for a bit & then came in & set up my new organizer purse. When I was done with that I decided it was time to go through all my Avon stuff & sort it out. I have WAY too much Avon stuff, but you know what? You can never have too much Avon or yarn. ;) There were only 3 scents of body powder that I didn't have & coincidentally body powder was on sale this campaign ... a 3-fer ... so I bought the 3 I didn't have. I should probably stop buying stuff ... I'm not going to be here much longer from what I hear. The sneaky migration is happening. Grandma took our daughter Eve & never sent her back. Now I've been asked to go out there for anywhere from 2-6 months (she's probably not planning on sending me back), then come June she'll more than likely have Kyle come out to see his mom & sister who have been away for so long (she'll probably enroll him in school out there after he spends the summer with her & gets a job & starts driving) ... it's a migration. 1 person at a time she's going to suck us down there. LOL! The joke is, Pete will be last. It'll be up to him to sell the house & pack all our stuff. Nope. Do you know what's really going to happen? He'll be so happy & so at peace being her in the house alone without the rest of us, that we'll never see him again! Kyle says that's not true, we'll see him again because Kyle will teach him to use Skype. HA-HA ... very funny! Anyway, after the whole Avon ritual I went through the Sunday paper, checked facebook & then Pete remembered we were supposed to pick Josh up from work. See? I TOLD Josh to write his hours on my white board in my office! When he doesn't ... when he relies on Pete, Pete forgets. He had to wait a while for us to get there & then we needed groceries. SO ... next time ... if he wants to get out of there on time, he'll remember to write his hours on my white board. T-Bone steaks were on sale so we bought a 4-pack & grilled. We each had a GREAT T-Bone steak & then I cleared out my e-mail for the week, checked Woot! & the best deal I found that I'd use was a 12-pack of 5 Hour Energy, but still not a good enough deal to buy it. Then Pete helped me color my hair (it's jet black now - 1st pic) & then I loaded up Sims for a while. I finished another bathroom in Breckenridge (3rd pic) & then loaded up LizC864 3 (2nd pic). I placed the home in Bridgeport & started this one off in the winter. I created Faith (1st gen) who can't stand art, is shy, over-emotional, an animal lover, & a kleptomaniac. She decided to run with that last trait & become a master thief. She likes hamburger, custom music, & the color Irish Green. She's a Virgo & is so far still at level 1 of her job. Her furry companion is Olivia. An Italian Greyhound who is neat, playful, & noisy. Faith met & eventually married Vladimir Schlick from work. He's a vampire. They're expecting a child. When I made it to that milestone I closed the game, had a baked potato, & then watched a little television, played Words w/ Friends, headed to bed, played 5-Card Slingo & went to sleep. I got woken up early when AJ called & decided to stay up since Pete took the day off & is here. I added my Dover Publications expense to AnyTime for the 3 books I bought for inspiration as far as patterns for the Bead Loom & Knit Wit, updated my iPhone apps, & here I am. I STILL wasn't planning on being awake for another half hour yet, but maybe this will help us get to bed earlier tonight. Pete has had trouble sleeping & it's no wonder with what happened on the 19th. Kyle is home from school today too, but that's because there IS no school today.
Yasser Arafat is elected president of the Palestinian
National Council with 88.1 percent of the popular vote, becoming the
first democratically elected leader of the Palestinian people in
history.
Arafat, the founder of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO),
originally employed guerilla warfare and terrorism against Israel in his
struggle for an independent Palestinian state. However, in the late 1980s,
he stunned Israel and the world when he began seeking diplomatic
solutions in his quest for a Palestinian homeland. Arafat persuaded the
PLO to formally acknowledge the right of Israel to coexist with the
independent state of Palestine and in 1993 signed the historic
Israel-Palestinian Declaration of Principles with Israeli Prime Minister
Yitzhak Rabin. One year later, Arafat and Rabin signed a major peace
agreement granting Palestine limited self-government in territories
occupied by Israel. In 1995, Arafat shared the Nobel Peace Prize with
Rabin and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres for his peace efforts.
In the Palestinian people's first democratic election, in 1996, he won
an overwhelming electoral majority, consolidating his rule over the West
Bank and Gaza Strip areas granted autonomy in the 1995 agreement.
In 2000, though, hopes were dashed that the Oslo Accords might
finally bring peace to the troubled region when Arafat, dogged by
self-doubt and criticism at home that he was compromising too much, and
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak were unable to negotiate a final
peace.
In the aftermath of the collapse of negotiations, with
most Palestinians still living in poverty and growing increasingly
desperate, a new wave of violence erupted. Israel continued to blame
Arafat for the violence--even that which was perpetrated by Hamas and
Islamic Jihad, groups that had probably never been under his control.
The collapse of peace talks and the declaration of intifada by
the Palestinians led to the election of a hawkish right-wing government
in Israel, making peace seem an even more distant prospect.
Though Arafat pledged to join in America's war on terror after the attacks of September 11, 2001, he was not able to garner favor with U.S. President George W. Bush,
who was strongly pro-Israel. In December 2001, after a series of
Palestinian suicide attacks on Israel, Bush did nothing to stop Israel
as it re-conquered areas of the West Bank and even steamrolled the
Palestinian Authority's headquarters with tanks, effectively imprisoning
Arafat within his compound. After Israel dismissed a compromise offer
put forth by the Arab League, Palestinian attacks increased, causing
Israel to again turn to military intervention in the West Bank. Arafat
finally was released from his compound in May 2002, after an agreement
was reached which forced him to issue a statement in Arabic instructing
his followers to halt attacks on Israel. It was ignored and the
violence continued.
In a 2004 interview, George W. Bush rejected Arafat's status as a
legitimate spokesperson for his people, ending hopes for a peace
agreement while Arafat was still in power. In late October of that
year, reports surfaced that Arafat was seriously ill. He was flown to
Paris for treatment, and in early November fell into a coma. He was
pronounced dead on November 11. The exact cause of his death is unknown.
Arafat's funeral was held in Cairo, the city of his birth, and he was
buried in his former compound in the West Bank. He left behind a mixed
and painful legacy. Mahmoud Abbas became the new chairman of the PLO
and was elected president of the Palestinian Authority in January 2005.
Baseball pitcher Justin Verlander once paid $3k for a carton of chocolate milk. 1 day, while he was still in high school, a friend bought him a carton of milk in exchange for 0.1% of his signing bonus when he became a major league baseball player!

Tommy's a great musician. I've said this, but personalitywise, doesn't light up a room exactly. He went up to Grauman's Chinese Theater the other day to put his feet in the wet cement & left no impression. -Johnny Carson 1972
After more than seven decades as the world's largest
automaker, General Motors (GM) officially loses the title on January 21,
2009, when it announces worldwide sales of 8.36 million cars and trucks
in 2008, compared with Toyota's 8.97 million vehicle sales that same
year. However, the news wasn't all rosy for the Japanese auto giant,
which later in 2009 posted its first-ever loss as a public company.
General Motors was founded in 1908 in Flint, Michigan,
by horse-drawn carriage mogul William Durant. In 1904, Durant invested
in the Buick Motor Company, which was started in 1903 by Scottish-born
inventor David Dunbar Buick. Durant made Buick Motor the cornerstone of
his new holding company, General Motors, then acquired Oldsmobile,
Cadillac and Reliance Motor Company, among other auto and truck makers.
In 1911, Durant founded Chevrolet Motor Company, which by 1918 was part
of GM. By the early 1930s,
GM passed the Ford Motor Company to become the world's biggest auto
maker and went on to experience decades of growth. In 1940, GM
commemorated its 25-millionth American-made car and in 1967, it
celebrated its 100-millionth U.S.-made vehicle. However, by 2008, GM,
along with most of the auto industry, had been hit hard by the global
economic crisis and slumping vehicle sales. In December of that year,
President George W. Bush
signed multi-billion-dollar government bailout loans for GM and fellow
Big Three U.S. automaker Chrysler. On June 1, 2009, GM filed for Chapter
11 bankruptcy protection and said it would emerge as a leaner, more
efficient company. It planned to shutter dealerships and plants and shed
its Hummer, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn brands.
The roots of GM competitor Toyota Motor Corporation date to the late 1920s
when Kiichiro Toyoda, who worked for his father's Japan-based textile
machinery business, Toyoda Loom Works, began plans to develop an
automobile. In 1933, an auto division was formed within Toyoda Loom
Works and two years later a prototype vehicle, the A1, debuted. In 1937,
Toyota Motor Corporation was formed as a spinoff of Toyoda Loom Works.
In 1947, Toyota produced its 100,000th domestically made vehicle and in
the 1950s began exporting cars to America. During the oil crisis of the 1970s,
Toyota's small, fuel-efficient vehicles experienced a boost in
popularity in America and by the end of the 1990s, Toyota had produced
over 100 million vehicles in Japan.
We simply cannot maintain wholeness if we talk & walk differently than we see.
