Good morning! After a cinnamon roll for breakfast yesterday I got started on the house. That took MUCH longer than expected. I got into a cleaning rampage. I dusted the bathroom accents, cleaned the bedroom mirror, cleaned the dining table, did the dishes & wiped down the counters, cleaned the stove, changed the afghan on the sofa, pulled out the new broom (our old one broke) & then swept the entire house. After that I pulled out the brand new Swiffer WetJet. That thing is GREAT! Best money we ever spent & it wasn't that expensive. Works GREAT! Better than any mop we've EVER had! I ended up doing the entire house. It looked amazing, smelled great (Febreeze floor cleaner), & it's now my new best housecleaning friend. :) I went through one of my desk drawers but it was still neat & organized from last time, fed the pets, & took out the trash. After all that I was completely exhausted & sat down to work on eBay for a while, went through the mail when the mailman came, checked facebook & took my game turns, then went into the living room for some relaxing quilt crocheting. I took the dogs out & then met Pete at Taco bell for lunch & when we got back I sorted one of my Pinterest boards, collected & shared some new pins, & then when Pete was ready it was the nighttime routine ... well, almost routine. Game Lounge has officially been retired by DirecTV. I'm really going to miss 5 Card Slingo. Instead, I watched a recorded episode of Big Bang & fell asleep. This morning I let the dogs out, beaded for a while (my banner is almost finished & looks great!), & here I am. Spring ahead an hour on Sunday.
1st female prime minister was Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka, who took the office in 1960. With a name like hers, the campaign buttons must have been huge!

Happiness can be defined, in part at least, as the fruit of the desire & ability to sacrifice what we want now for what we want eventually.
If you're a woman 40 or older & worried about improving bone health or avoiding falls, you might want to take up:
(a) Running
(b) Soccer
(c) A cane
Answer: (b). Scientists in Denmark recently had 1 group of sedentary adult women join a soccer league & another group start running for 14 weeks. Afterward, the soccer players had gained more bone mass in their legs, & had a better leg muscle strenght & balance, than the runners. (Plus, their kids were undoubtedly impressed.)
On this day in 2010, Kathryn Bigelow becomes the first woman to win an
Academy Award for best director, for her movie “The Hurt Locker,” about
an American bomb squad that disables explosives in Iraq in 2004. Prior
to Bigelow, only three women had been nominated for a best director
Oscar: Lina Wertmueller for 1975’s “Seven Beauties,” Jane Campion for
1993’s “The Piano” and Sofia Coppola for 2003’s “Lost in Translation.”
Born in San Carlos, California, in 1951, Bigelow graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1972 and later earned a master’s degree in film from Columbia University. She made her feature film debut with 1982’s “The Loveless,” which she co-wrote and co-directed. The film, about a motorcycle gang, starred Willem Dafoe. The next movie Bigelow directed, 1987’s “Near Dark,” was a western-horror hybrid that gained a cult following. She went on to helm 1990’s “Blue Steel,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis as a police officer stalked by a killer, and 1991’s “Point Break,” about bank-robbing surfers, featuring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. Bigelow’s other directing credits include 1995’s “Strange Days” with Ralph Fiennes, 2000’s “The Weight of Water” with Sean Penn and 2002’s “K-19: The Widowmaker” with Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson.
At the 82nd Academy Awards in March 2010, Bigelow’s fellow best-director nominees included James Cameron (“Avatar”), whom she was married to from 1989 to 1991, along with Lee Daniels (“Precious”), Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Quentin Tarantino (“Inglorious Basterds”). After making history by winning the directing prize, Bigelow said, "I hope I'm the first of many [women], and of course, I'd love to just think of myself as a filmmaker. And I long for the day when that modifier can be a moot point.” Her movie “The Hurt Locker,” which starred Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty, also won Oscars for best picture, film editing, sound editing, sound mixing and original screenplay.

We come from Burbank. Of course, I mention that frequently, so we don't lie. Because you're not supposed to lie on television. We're not in Hollywood. And Burbank itself is an interesting little village - it's the only place I know where they sell maps to the homes of movie star's parents. -Johnny Carson 1978
