March 13, 2013

Good afternoon! I'm completely exhausted, but it was SO worth it! Yesterday I cross stitched, went through the mail, worked on eBay, checked facebook & took my game turns, took the dogs out, checked facebook again on my iPad Mini, told Kyle to neaten the drawers in his bathroom, then I showered & cooked some amazing Shepherd's Pie for dinner, turned on the TV & immediately fell asleep until Pete walked through the door from his meeting w/ the city & woke me up. I had only slept 2 hours the night before, remember? Completely
exhausted. Nighttime routine & in bed by 12:30a. Pete & I both slept until 9:30 this morning & then I took the dogs out & we immediately headed out to do a LCFD errand, go to McKinney ReStore to get a new table for my office to make room for my new Inkle weaving loom that my best friend Ann-Marie built for me & sent (it got here today), we stopped at Jack in the Box for breakfast & then it was home to get to work on rearranging my office. What a long & hard job! 1st I cleaned the bottom shelf in the inside corner section of the brown bookshelf set (behind the printer in the 2nd pic ... bottom left). After neatening that whole corner area, I started getting ready for the new loom which I knew was going to be delivered today but wasn't here yet. I took all the books off of the 2nd shelf of the white bookshelf (bottom pic ... far right) & moved it from where it used to be (to the left of the window) to where it is now & then put all the books back onto the 2nd shelf. Then I moved the old table that had the knitting machine on it (it used to be in front of the window) & just slid it over to in front of the white bookshelf. I got the new table out of the truck & put it where the white bookshelf & old table used to be, put the new loom on it (UPS came as I was putting the new table in place ... how's THAT for timing?!), carefully detached the knitting machine from the old table & attached it to the new one while the knitting project was still attached to the machine (had to work VERY carefully because of that), then put all the other stuff from the old table onto the new table, moved the iPad docking stereo from my desk to the new table (that black looking box on the table just to the left of the window ... the new loom is the white object on the far left of the table), then put the old table out into the living room because I have NO idea where to put it (we need more square footage!). My massage chair is now in the hallway blocking the washer & dryer because the white bookshelf is now where IT used to be. I have no idea what to do with THAT either! Anyway, little things got moved here & there ... the entire room got cleaned in the process, & it looks GREAT now! It felt SO good to finally sit down when it was all finished. I checked my banking for the week & update Quicken & here I am. My Sim-self had a very long day too. Yesterday she rode to the cafe on the motorcycle & spent $12. I just realized that eating out in the cafe not only satisfies hunger, but it also satisfies fun. On her way home is started raining. Ah, now I know why I don't own a motorcycle even though I want one in real life. You go out & it either rains on you or someone looks right at you & pulls out of a side street like you weren't even there. Anyway, when my Sim-Self got back home, she tuned the exhaust on the motorcycle for $500 & then worked on her novel & made it to Level 1 of the writing skill as well as fulfilled a 500 point wish. She played guitar for a while & then went to the consignment shop but it was closed. She didn't have anything to sell yet, but she does need to buy a camera for the photography skill. You normally have to buy them in France which would require a vacation, but sometimes you get lucky & find them at the consignment shop. I was trying to avoid the trip to France, although in Sims it's my favorite vacation destination because even in the Sims it's beautiful! I'll probably end up vacationing there anyway, I need all the exotic grapes you can only get from there for my nectar making skill. OK, I need 2 items from France. Vacation soon. When she came back home from the consignment shop, she chatted on the PC for a bit & then played PC games. Then it was on to the Inventing table. She made it to Level 1 of the inventing skill, checked the mail (no bills on Tuesday, no other mail, & I just found out that you can't send a love letter to your husband, only others). Then it was housecleaning time. She hasn't done this since the game started on Sunday & it was now Tuesday. All the plates get put in the dishwasher after use, but the place was a wreck. Laundry all over, dog puddles, one of the cats barfed, the toilet was filthy ... yuck! And the kitchen sink broke so she had to fix that which got her to level 2 of the handiness skill before she was done. During all this she became hungry, stinky, & tired. Time to rearrange the schedule again. Shower & Supper have been moved to BEFORE monthly housecleaning (IRL) & television has been deleted from both Monday AND Tuesday nights. When she was done with all the cleaning, she made waffles which got her to level 1 of the cooking skill, watched TV although she was so tired she was fighting me the whole time, & then she went to bed. When she got up today she worked on her Charisma skill & then headed to the cafe on the motorcycle. perfect timing since on the way there she became hungry. PERFECT! :) Scheduling progress is being made. Tomorrow we'll see how today went for her & how the changes I made today work out for her (& me). LCFD Easter Egg Hunt Saturday @ 2.

Americans lead the list. The average American consumes over 43 gallons of soft drinks annually! They need it to wash down the 5 lbs of chips they consume each year!

Countries that consume the most soft drinks per person top 10:
  1. USA (of course)
  2. Mexico
  3. Norway (I wonder if they have Dr Pepper)
  4. Canada
  5. Australia
  6. Belgium
  7. Chile
  8. Argentina
  9. UK
  10. Saudi Arabia
Disney names Robert Iger as new chief executive (2005):
On this day in 2005, the board of directors of the Walt Disney Company officially announces that Robert Iger, Disney’s president and chief operating officer, will succeed Michael Eisner as the company’s chief executive officer (CEO).
As Disney’s chief executive since 1984, Eisner was credited with expanding the company’s reach into diverse realms of the entertainment industry--including animated and live-action films, theater and theme parks--with phenomenal success. By the spring of 2004, however, Disney was struggling to emerge from a bit of a slump: Its ABC television division was struggling, while its once-dominant animation department was being outpaced by innovators such as Pixar, producers of the massive 2003 hit Finding Nemo. Shareholders voted to strip Eisner of his chairmanship of the Disney board that March, and Eisner announced in September that he would leave Disney in two years.
The following March, the announcement came that Iger, Disney’s president and Eisner’s loyal second-in-command since 2000, would succeed Eisner as the company’s CEO. Iger worked as a weatherman and news reporter in Ithaca, New York, before joining ABC in 1974. He rose through the ranks there and was eventually named president and chief operating officer of Capital Cities/ABC. The success of shows such as NYPD Blue, Roseanne, Home Improvement and America’s Funniest Home Videos helped drive ABC’s increasing profits during Iger’s tenure, and he oversaw the merger of ABC with Disney, creating a juggernaut of channels including ABC, ESPN, Lifetime, A&E and The History Channel.
Iger had officially joined Disney’s senior management team in 1996 as chairman of the ABC Group; in 1999 he was named president of Walt Disney International. The following January, Iger was named Disney’s president and chief operating officer.
Things were looking up for Disney at the time of Iger’s promotion, as ABC had scored recent hits with Lost and Desperate Housewives and its movie division had showed strong results. From the time his succession was announced, Iger worked to give Disney’s various business units more autonomy. Seeing the enormous potential of advances in technology and new media, Iger also made it a priority to guide Disney into the future of entertainment. Less than two weeks after he officially took over as CEO on October 1, 2005, Iger announced a deal that made Disney- and ABC-owned TV show episodes available through Apple Computer’s online iTunes store. Rivals such as NBC and CBS hastened to follow suit and provide their programs for iTunes or on-demand viewing.

Expensify:
This is the iPad version of the Expensify app - if you have an iPhone, we recommend installing our new official iPhone app instead of this one - it's available as a separate download. Just search the App Store for 'Expensify' to find it!
Consistently rated as the #1 app for business travelers and road warriors, Expensify does expense reports that don't suck! (CNN Money) We do this by automating your entire expense report process.
Use our app to sync with your credit cards and bank accounts to track purchases as they happen. We'll even pull in eReceipts, digital copies of the paper receipts you normally have to carry around, for most purchases under $75.
For any purchases that are made with cash or are not eligible for eReceipts, turn your phone in to a receipt scanner by snapping a picture of the receipt! Our app will scan the image and pull out the merchant, date and amount of the transaction. We will use this information to either create a new cash expense or attach the receipt to it's matching credit card purchase.
Add in any remaining mileage expenses and you have a completely documented view of all spending. All that's left is to pick and choose which expenses should be added to an expense report and send it off to be approved. We'll email a PDF copy of your report to anyone with an email address for their approval. You can even be reimbursed directly to a checking account, all online!
Slate.com raved that we finally "brought expense reports in to the 21st century."

Kansas Barbed Wire Museum in LaCrosse, Kansas, has over 2,000 different types of barbed wire on display. And yes, they're pretty much all spiky.

Palm Springs, they really went bananas down there [for spring break]. You know, it's understandable, a little bit of it. Remember we used to go out? Kids overdo it with the beer drinking, a little bit. One of the students was about halfway across the Mojave Desert, saying, "Man, this beach is a trip!" -Johnny Carson 1986

Self-awareness enables us to stand apart & examine even the way we "see" ourselves - our self-paradigm, the most fundamental paradigm of effectiveness. It affects not only our attitudes & behaviors, but also how we see other people. It becomes our map of the basic nature of mankind.

Send a memo to HR strongly suggesting they consider your teenage-dropout cousin for the next opening in management.

Take a break from anything that involves prolonged staring, like surfing the Web or reading a book. Focused work means you're not blinking as frequently, so the delicate cells of your eye dry out, blurring vision.
