★ August 30, 2012 ★

Nice car, I wouldn't mind having one of these. Of course that would defeat the entire purpose of having a 2nd vehicle that gets better mpg than my truck. I don't think I'd be taking it easy in this car. Plus, speeding tickets add up, too. LOL! Nice quiet day yesterday. I knitted another panel on the afghan & then started up a business career Sims game in Appaloosa Plains. The 1st pic is my 1st gen Sim, Xanadu, standing in front of her little starter home. Her lifetime wish is to be the CEO of a mega-corporation. The easiest of all the Sim careers & the ONLY career that doesn't require any special traits or skills. All you have to do is show up for work every day. Now my question is ... is that true to life or are they just making a statement? LOL! Anyway, Xanadu met & married Benjamin Schmidt at work (her boss). She moved out of her starter home & into his house which is the next pic. You can't really see because it's dark, but it's a pretty nice house. I ended up fixing it up once some money was saved up. It got a new paint job, flower bushes were planted along the front of the house, I repainted the truck, changed the tile in the kitchen, & added a shower & new mailbox. Since I now have 2 generations living in this small 1 bedroom, 1 bath house, I moved the exercise equipment out of the bedroom & onto the back deck to make room for Michael's (2nd generation) bed. Michael met his wife (he just got married) in kindergarten. Her name was Cassie Fox (now Cassie Schmidt) & they're expecting a child (who will be named Hazel or Harry). The 4th pic is of Michael's new hover bed (acquired by one of his parents with lifetime wish points). Both parents achieved their lifetime wish of CEO which is also Michael's wish (This is the CEO game, so all generations will be in that field). The final pic is of Michael in the limo on his way to prom with Cassie. In the background you can see the house better with it's new blue paint job, newly planted flower bushes, & the maroon pickup. I also added a lot of outdoor lighting because there wasn't any lighting outside when I 1st moved in making it very dark as you can see in the 3rd pic. Now there are porch & deck railing lights front & back, & driveway lights. Anyway, 4 Sims & 4 cats in a 1 bedroom, 1 bath house. I'm going to have to do some major renovations soon & add on. I would have moved into Cassie's house, but I found out that if you have $80,000 & move, the money stays with your old house & doesn't go with you. There was no way I was going to leave all that behind, so we stayed here. The next time I play this game there's a good chance you'll see this house with a 2nd floor added on. I need a minimum of 3 bedrooms & 3 baths to function in the game properly with 3 generations in a home which is normal. The amount of money involved almost guarantees that we stay in this house for a long time. I can take it with me, but I'd have to buy an $80,000 car (which goes with you when you move) & then sell the car as soon as we're done moving. I lose a little in depreciation that way, but it's better than leaving all $80k behind. I should have done that this time, but I didn't think of it before we left & her house is the same size if not smaller, but the land it was on was huge making expansion easier. If she had a much larger home, I would have gone ahead & found a way to bring the money with us (by buying & then selling a car) & moved. City council meeting Tuesday.

Anatomy-wise, what is the meaning of the slang term cankle?
Fat ankle. A combination of the words calf and ankle, it is used when a person’s calf and ankle appear to be the same thickness.

Any lateness is too much. Your lateness wastes not just your time but the time of everyone else who's participating. Not a smart way to do business.

A parrot tried to imitate you but it just sounded like this: "__________." Then the parrot __________. Too bad.

California Senate passes Global Warming Solutions Act (2006):
On this day in 2006, the California State Senate passes Assembly Bill (AB) 32, otherwise known as the Global Warming Solutions Act. The law made California the first state in America to place caps on carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, including those found in automobile emissions.
The Global Warming Solutions Act became law thanks to an alliance between the state's Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and its Democratic-controlled legislature. The bill's passage solidified California's role as a leader in enacting legislation aimed at combating global warming, or the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere due to the so-called "greenhouse effect" caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. California--which represents 10 percent of the nation's automobile market and is known for its struggles with air pollution--took the lead early in setting stricter fuel emissions standards than the federal government's.
Despite his professed enthusiasm for the Hummer, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) known for its prodigious size (and prodigious emission of greenhouse gases), Schwarzenegger sought to uphold his state's pioneering legislation regarding automobile emissions, passed during the tenure of his predecessor, Gray Davis. That law, AB 1493, required the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to regulate greenhouse gases under the state's motor vehicle program and gave automakers until the 2009 model year to produce cars and light trucks that would collectively emit 22 percent fewer greenhouse gases by 2012 and 30 percent fewer by 2016.
The Global Warming Solutions Act went even further, calling for an overall 25 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions (or to 1990 levels) by 2025, a timetable that would bring California close to full compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, an international climate-change treaty signed in that Japanese city in 1997. Even after Schwarzenegger signed AB 32 into law in September 2006, California faced an uphill battle to enact these new standards against the resistance of the automotive industry, backed by the administration of President George W. Bush. Automakers had historically resisted increases in fuel-economy standards, as stricter standards usually require an overhaul of their production methods to make cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles. The tides turned, however, with the presidential election of 2008, and in 2009 President Barack Obama announced new nationwide rules on auto emissions standards, bringing them into line with those mandated by California.

Life insurance is a lousy place to save money. It's a horrible investment vehicle. These whole life policies for children that suggest the cash value is a great college investment tool are a terrible deal. Stay away from life insurance as a college savings plan. In fact, stay away from whole life policies altogether.

Trichologist:
A person who specializes in hair & scalp care; broadly : a person whose occupation is the dressing or cutting of hair.
"Their hair was evaluated for strength, damage, & sheen by New York City trichologist David H. Kingsley, Ph.D."
Although you can accurately call the person who cuts your hair your "trichologist," the term is usually appliles, as it is in the example sentence, to someone who studies & treats hair & scalp ailments. The "trich" in "trichologist," is the Greek trich-, the stem of thrix, meaning "hair." This root makes an appearance in a numberof other similarly technical-sounding words, such as "trichiasis" ("a turning inward of the eyelashes often causing irritation of the eyeball"), "trichome" ("an epidermal hair structure on a plant"), & "trichotillomania" ("an abnormal desire to pull out one's hair").
