Hello everyone! Happy Monday! If you're bummed because it's Monday & you have to go back to work, look at the bright side. At least you have work to go to. It's so hard for some people to find a job out there. It's really tough, so try & keep your chin up & smile ... you're working for that paycheck that some can only dream of. The 1st pic here is me & my graduating class from Driver Ops 1, 2, & 3 at the Fire Academy. Great class! There were several pics taken. This was the 1st. You know, the one were half the people blinked, turned their head, or turned around completely. The truck wasn't lined up properly in the frame, etc. Saturday was a good day. Nice & calm. Pete & I went to Culver's for lunch & then Dunkin' Donuts for dessert which is conveniently located across the street & a block away from Culver's, on the correct side of the street, on our way home. NICE! Saturday night when Kyle got off work, we picked him up in Princeton along with Josh who came to visit us for the night. It was nice because we haven't seen too much of him since Eve moved to Myrtle Beach. The 2nd pic here is my completed Blanket that I finished Saturday night. I love it! I kept 2nd guessing the pattern & the block placement, but I think it came out pretty good. :) The 3rd pic is the coiled up 1st panel of the new afghan I started. All the panels will be exactly the same. no yarn or color changes. It will be joined differently than the blanket shown before it, it's instead going to have the braided-style joining. You'll see later. I 1st make the 2 edge panels, so the 2nd panel won't be joined to the 1st one yet. It won't be until the 3 panel, one of the many center panels, that I'll join 2 of them & you can see what it's going to look like. The 4th picture is a screenshot from Saturday night's Sims game. He's a successful sculptor who's out there on his front porch working on his next masterpiece. Pics 5-10 are from Sunday's game. My celebrity, Zack. He is already a successful 4-star celebrity who married a co-worker, Tiara Angelista. Them moved into her home since Zack lived in a tiny started apartment when they met. It's a beautiful home located outside of Bridgeport with an amazing view of the Bridgeport Bridge & downtown. They've had a baby girl, the future 2nd generation 5-star celebrity, Willow. So far she hates the outdoors & is eccentric. her remaining 3 traits will come as she gets older. The 1st shot is of their home & the amazing view that comes with it. Next is a shot of the 2nd floor, then the 1st floor view. Now, the next shot is why this game is rated "Teen" My Sim (who is male) married Tiara & THIS is Tiara. This is how she likes to walk around the house all day. HA! And you thought this was a kiddie game. Nope, I don't think so ... unless you want your kiddies looking at Tiara all day! The next shot is my ride, yes ... I get to ride around in a limo all day. Apparently 1 of the perks of being a 4-star (out of 5) celebrity. One of the jobs of a celebrity is to visit the hotspots in Bridgeports, the higher-end bars & lounges. Check out the bartender. Another reason this is rated T for Teen. Well, In other news ... today was the 1st day of school! WOOHOO! At the beginning of the summer you're thinking how nice it'll be to have your children back. To have some company at the house during the day. About halfway through the summer, you start counting down to when school starts again. PEACE! LOL! Thank you to all who helped me find a replacement dash light. The last photo is the dash light I bought used from someone. It was actually pretty funny because 1) it was the exact same light I had planned to buy new in Richardson & 2) I set it up, plugged it in, & nothing. I flipped the switch on the power cord. Nothing. I texted the person I bought it from & asked "How many firefighters does it take to turn on a light?" Turns out they had forgotten that they removed the fuse. Ah HA! Ok, so I'm not retarded. Phew! I got an email this morning from meetup.com as I usually do with new meetups available in my area for the interests I have. There's one called Knit Together Dallas that meets every Thursday & is worth checking into. I've joined the group & am waiting on an address to see where they meet every week. If it's not too far away I'll consider going. It would be nice to meet new people who have at least 1 of the same interests as I do & that would mean Thursday becomes hand knitting day! Right now that's on Tuesdays after the FD, but I'll just move it to Thursdays at 6, move machine knitting from Wednesday to Tuesday after the FD, & move PSPX3 from Thursdays to Wednesday. Got it? I'm not confused ... yet. Today is iPhone apps day. This is the day I update all my apps that have an update ready & go shopping through the app store to see if there's anything new & interesting that's been released in the last week. I decided to finally upgrade 1 of my favorite apps, AllRecipes.com Dinner Spinner, from the free version to the Pro version. As much as I like & use that app, it's worth it & the Pro version comes with some cool features. Great news: Our tax refund came today! We have some great plans for this one. We're going to pay Pete's mom back the money we owe her for Eve's airfare, Pay off our Conn's loan for the new washing machine we bought, pay off the Swiss Colony loan for all the gift baskets I bought everyone on Christmas, buy a new microwave (remember the other one fried on us?), get rid of our huge sectional sofa & replace it with 2 matching recliners (our living room was WAY too small for that huge sofa, no matter how pretty it looked in that HUGE showroom), & throw the rest (a rather significant amount) at one of our larger loans to see how far we can knock it down. We have 3 & it's all a matter of who has the highest interest rate out of the 3. I think the Honda has the lowest interest rate of all of them, so that leaves our other Conn's loan or my department store card. I THINK my department store card has the highest rate, so we'll probably throw the remaining refund at that. It will also knock the monthly payments down to about half of what they are now since the monthly payment changes drastically based on how much you owe. That loan was also used for Christmas. The Wii, all the Wii accessories, & the hottest new games. You know what? Everyone had a wonderful Christmas, but the payments were painful. I love my family & friends, but I think everyone's getting an afghan for Christmas this year. LOL! For what I've paid in monthly payments for all the Christmas presents combined, I could have been making a new car payment instead. Note to self: Do NOT get all generous around Christmas time. you can't afford it! Well, you can, but it's painful & you need 5 new tires for your truck this year. There's Christmas. Only my truck gets a gift this year. HAHA! Sorry about the arrangement of the pics up there, but that was the best I could do. That's one of my biggest complaints with Blogger is that is completely spazzes out when you have more than one pic at the beginning of your blog. The more you have, the worse it gets. You can't fix it, I've futzed with them for 15 minutes solid now & the best I could do was at least get them to stay in the correct order. LCFD training Tuesday.
Coughing, sneezing, & nose blowing. When you feel a sneeze or cough coming on, cover your mouth & nose with a handkerchief or tissue, the croos of your elbow - or your napkin, if that's the only thing within reach. in an emergency, your hand is better than nothing at all. If you can't seem to stop coughing or sneezing, excuse yourself until it passes. if your problem is nose blowing, excuse yourself & blow your nose in the restroom. Wash your hands afterward.

On this day in 2007, Michael Vick, a star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, formally pleads guilty before a Richmond, Virginia,
judge to a federal felony charge related to running a dogfighting ring.
That December, the 27-year-old Vick, once the highest-paid player in
the NFL, was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison.
In April 2007, law-enforcement officials raided a 15-acre property owned by Vick in rural Surry County, Virginia, and discovered dozens of pit bulls, some of them neglected, along with evidence of illegal dogfighting activities. That July, Vick and three other men, Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor, were charged with engaging in competitive dogfighting, obtaining and training pit bulls for fighting, and carrying out the enterprise across state lines. All four men pled not guilty to the charges. However, Vick’s three co-defendants later changed their pleas to guilty and agreed to testify that the quarterback had participated in the execution of a number of dogs and had bankrolled the gambling and operating funds for the venture, known as Bad Newz Kennels, which had reportedly been in existence for about five years. Animal-rights organizations as well as the general public expressed outrage against Vick and the barbaric details of the case—dogs that underperformed in fights were put to death by such means as drowning, electrocution and hanging.
On August 27, Vick, the Falcons’ starting quarterback since 2002, pled guilty to one count of "conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture." Vick, who in 2004 signed a record 10-year, $130 million contract with the Falcons, was suspended indefinitely without pay by the NFL and lost his lucrative endorsement deals.
In December 2007, a judge sentenced Vick to 23 months in federal prison. Because the judge believed the football player had refused to accept responsibility for his actions (Vick failed a drug test after his August 2007 guilty plea and also flunked a lie-detector test about his role in the executions of underperforming dogs), the sentence was stiffer than the 12 months to 18 months suggested by federal guidelines. In July 2008, while in prison, Vick filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. That November, he pled guilty in Virginia to state dogfighting charges and received a three-year suspended sentence.
In May 2009, Vick was released from prison in Leavenworth, Kansas. That July, he was conditionally reinstated by the NFL and the following month signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. While his public image remained tarnished, Vick went on to make a strong comeback on the football field.

On this day in 1986, 18-year-old Jennifer Levin is found dead in New
York City’s Central Park less than two hours after she was seen leaving a
bar on the city’s Upper East Side with 19-year-old Robert Chambers. The
tall, handsome Chambers was soon arrested and charged with murder. The
tabloid media dubbed Chambers, who had attended Manhattan private
schools, the “Preppy Killer.” The case shocked the city and raised
questions about underage drinking, drug use and casual sex among New
York’s privileged youth.
In the early hours of August 26, Levin, a graduate of a Manhattan private school, was with friends at Dorrian’s Red Hand, a bar popular with prep-school students, where she encountered Chambers, with whom she was casually acquainted. Chambers, a college dropout, had grown up on Manhattan’s mostly affluent Upper East Side, although his family was not wealthy. A former altar boy, he became involved in drinking and drugs as a teenager—allegedly stealing to pay for his drug habit—and was kicked out of several private schools he attended.
After meeting up at Dorrian’s on August 26, Levin and Chambers left there together around 4:30 a.m. and headed to Central Park. Levin’s lifeless body, badly bruised and partially clothed, was discovered under a tree in the park behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art around 6:15 a.m. by a cyclist. When police arrived, one eyewitness later recalled spotting a man who would fit Chamber’s description standing in the vicinity observing the scene. That afternoon, after speaking with Levin’s friends, police questioned Chambers, who denied any knowledge of the crime and claimed the scratches on his face were from a cat. However, later that day, he made videotaped and written statements to police indicating he might have accidentally killed Levin because she hurt him during rough sex in the park. An autopsy report concluded that Levin died from asphyxia by strangulation.
A highly publicized court trial followed, and on March 25, 1988, with the jury at an impasse on its ninth day of deliberations, Chambers withdrew his plea of not guilty and agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter. He was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.
During his time behind bars, Chambers proved to be a less-than-model prisoner. He committed numerous drug and weapons infractions, and spent nearly five years in solitary confinement. In 2003, after serving his full sentence, Chambers was released. However, in 2008, he was convicted of selling drugs and sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Arden left the party abruptly & refused to vouchsafe an explanation.
Shakespeare fans are well acquainted with "vouchsafe." The word, which was borrowed with its present meaning from Anglo-French in the 14th century, pops up fairly frequently in the Bard's work - 60 times, to be exact! "Vouchsafe me yet your picture for my love," beseeches Proteus of Silvia in The 2 Gentlemen of Verona. "Vouchsafe me raiment, bed, & food," King Lear begs his daughter Ragan. here's a more contemporary example from John Derbyshire, writing in the Washington Times, Janyary 4, 2004: "He hoped to actually witness an eagle catching a fox. this was not vouchsafed to him on that 1st trip ..."
Walk when necessary. At busy intersections, it's safest for kids to walk their bikes across.
