Yesterday was a very full day. Where do I start? Well, I finished my afghan last night. It came out beautiful & is pictured here. Next up I'm making the exact same pattern, but with different colors/yarns. I had a great time finishing the afghan, then choosing the next project, & the most fun is going through my yarn room & choosing the next set of yarn I'm going to use. I finally emptied one of the yarn storage bins, & it was damaged so in the trash it goes. The average person would never notice one storage bin gone, but I do. It looks weird being 1 short in there, but it's nice that I'm finally working through the yarn. I've missed it.
By best friend Ann is missing, this worries me to an extreme. She's like me, always online, always on facebook, always available. I had noticed that she hasn't liked or commented on anything I've posted in the last couple days, but assumed she was busy. It wasn't until I woke up to a message this morning from one of her good online friends saying that they haven't heard anything from her in 2 days that I checked her page & sure enough, nothing since 7:p on Tuesday. NOW I'm worried! Ann is my best friend since 1st grade & I don't know what I would do if anything ever happened to her. Thank you Sherri for bringing it to my attention that something was wrong. I tried calling both her numbers, 1 went straight to voice mail, the other was a constant busy signal. Later today if I still can't get through, I'll call family up there & send someone to her house.
Now my daughter. I find out Eve was in the hospital last night due to choking during dinner. I'm SO glad she wasn't alone when this happened. I'm going to have to teach her how to do the self-Heimlich maneuver just in case. Eve, PLEASE be careful! Take smaller bites, chew your food well, & slow down.
Hey, the school bus just stopped outside in front of the house. Looks like they're practicing their route for this year. School is soon!
In firefighter news, I bought 4 new firefighting/EMS books at Half Price & my collection now almost takes up an entire shelf. WOOHOO! I came across a GREAT program that's not only a game, but the best Incident Command training I've ever seen! It's SO realistic & throws every possible scenario at you & has pretty good graphics. You get med calls, grass fires, structure fires, auto accidents ... & every one is different & unique. Every one is realistic in that you have bystanders, other traffic coming at you, everything you have in real life. It's up to you to dispatch the correct apparatus, the correct number of apparatus, set up traffic control, tell the firefighters where to go to fight the fire, tell the officers where to set up traffic, you can completely close off a road or leave any number of lanes open depending on the incident. You can call in a medical helicopter if needed, you need to dispatch tow trucks to clear the wreck, & not only that, you have to choose the correct tow truck(s) ... regular, flatbed, heavy duty (if a truck was involved in the wreck). You have the possibility of a secondary accident if you don't set up traffic control properly, you have the possibility of the building next door to a structure fire catching also if you don't knock down the fire on the correct side of the building fast enough or take the appropriate steps to cool down the building next door ... you have heart attacks (some survive, some you need to do CPR on, some you can't save). For a game, it's extremely useful in Incident Command training & the most realistic I've seen. It's European, so the sirens & accents make you feel like you're in England, but it's a GREAT game that teaches you what to do & what NOT to do on scene. The only thing I don't like about it is it's like the Incident Command training at the college. You have a LOT of resources to throw at almost anything. If I could get in there & change the settings to only have what OUR department has available & knock down the number of personnel from what a major city has available to what our small town has, it would be REALLY realistic for my needs. BUT, since I can't do that, I treat it as commanding our own scene WITH mutual aid departments.
Now, about lunch yesterday. I decided to go to lunch at Culver's & I invited Kyle. Sounds nice, right? A quiet lunch out with my son. Mother/Son bonding time. We go to Culver's & Kyle picks up the tab. How sweet! Thank you! To reciprocate, I stop at Dunkin' Donuts on the way back & buy us dessert. We're sitting at a traffic light on the way home & Kyle turns to me & says "Isn't Half Price Books RIGHT over there??" ... "uhhhm ... why yes, it is." Oh boy. 2 people with NO willpower & on payday should have NEVER left the house together! I want to go, but I know myself. This can be bad, so I don't make the decision. Instead I do something stupid & leave it up to him. I'm in the center lane & there are cars on either side of me. What does he do? He hesitates for a moment (also realizing this is a mistake) & then says "DO IT! LET'S GO!" Crap. I know I shouldn't, but I want to! I turn the truck around we're off to Half Price Books. Now, on the way out originally, I put $16 worth of fuel in the truck, so that was the 1st ChaCHING. I got a LOT of cool stuff at Half Price Books ... $66 worth to be exact. ChaCHING! Then Kyle notices that OfficeMax is right next door. He needs school supplies from there & after we load up the truck with our purchases from Half Price, we walk over to OfficeMax (another store I should never be in with a credit card or without adult supervision). More cool stuff. $30. ChaCHING! (Was almost $67, but one item I needed, although REALLY nice & perfect, had a start date of January (too far off). I need a start date of October which can only be purchased online). Sonofa ... $111 later (just for ME) & there went payday. I had a plan, I was going to do what I do EVERY month & pay down my Bill Me Later account to zero. I have never left a running balance for more than 30 days with them because I plan on buying 4 or 5 brand new truck tires with that card & was hoping, since they do credit decisions on the fly for large purchases, that they'd pull up my account & say "Oh, well ... YES!" So much for that plan. Thanks to my spending spree, I couldn't pay it down to zero as I always have in the past. I paid 3X+ more than the minimum payment due, but definitely not the entire balance. Crap! I use this card throughout the month on specific things & now, instead of spending for 30 days starting at a zero balance, I'm going to spend for 30 days starting on a triple-digit balance. What does this mean? That I probably won't be able to pay it to zero next month either. It's the beginning of a viscous cycle that I didn't ever want to get caught up in. The only reason the balance was higher than usual this month was because of 3 larger purchases that I made on that card, that I knew would make it harder to pay off yesterday, but knew I could still do it if I cut back for the next 2 weeks. The spending spree kinda killed that. Anyway, besides the regular purchases I make on the card throughout the month, I also bought a brand new gaming keyboard, gaming mouse, & the earrings from Blue Steel. Oh well ... lesson learned (again). MUST HAVE SELF-CONTROL! ::: Beating head on desk :::
One of my Sims (pictured above) is wearing my favorite 1-piece swimsuits available in the Sims game. I would SO wear that in real life if I were 50 lbs lighter & didn't mind a really weird tan-line. :)

Comic Andrew Dice Clay stars as a private investigator trying to make
sense of a rash of murders that has left a string of music-industry
victims in its wake. The most recent casualty: a disc jockey (Gilbert
Gottfried) with a penchant for verbal attacks. It's no surprise, then,
that there's a long list of suspects with a beef against him in director
Renny Harlin's pull-no-punches comedy. Wayne Newton, Lauren Holly and
Priscilla Presley co-star.

A plane crash at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Michigan
kills 156 people on this day in 1987. A four-year-old girl was the sole
survivor of the accident, which was caused by pilot error.
Northwest Flight 255 was headed to California
with a stopover in Phoenix when it pulled away from the gate in
Detroit. While the DC-9 Super 82 taxied out to the runway, the pilot and
co-pilot failed to conduct their pre-flight checks according to
procedure and, as a result, the takeoff-warning system was never turned
on. Later, there was speculation that the pilots may have been rushing
the checks to avoid incoming bad weather.
A lack of
communication between the pilot and co-pilot turned into a deadly
mistake when neither extended the wing flaps prior to takeoff. The
extended flaps work as a lifting surface on the leading edge of the
wings. As the plane rushed down the 6,800-foot runway, it lifted only 40
feet off the ground when it should already have been 600 feet in the
air. At the end of the runway, the plane hit lampposts and a rental-car
office. The plane then crashed onto a road a half of a mile away. On the
Interstate 94 Bridge in Romulus, the plane hit a car and killed both
people in the vehicle.
The fiery crash that ensued killed
154 other people, including Nick Vanos, a center for the NBA's Phoenix
Suns. Remarkably, one person survived the accident, four-year-old
Cecelia Cichan of Tempe, Arizona.

Sparge:
1: Sprinkle or bespatter; especially : spray. 2: To agitate (a liquid) by means of compressed air or gas entering through a pipe.
Part of the disinfecting process at the new water treatment plant may involve sparging the water with ozone bubbles.
Etymologists think that "sparge" likely came to English by way of the Middle French word espargier, itself from Latin spargere, meaning "to scatter." (Spargere is also the source of "disperse," "intersperse," & "sparse," among others.) Although "sparge" has been a synonym for "sprinkle" since the late 16th century, you're now most likely to come across it in 1 of 2 contexts. The 1st is a process called "air sparging," in which air is injected into groundwater to help remediate contamination. The 2nd is the process of beer making, during which mash is sparged - that is, sprayed with hot water to extract the wort. in The New World Guide to Beer, author Michael Jackson describes a particular beer-making process: "It's brewed only from 1st running, without sparging ..."
