Blogger now introduces "Mentions" ... the ability to tag people in your blog like you can do in your facebook posts. Just put a "+" or an "@" in front of their name & you can tag people or pages. Too bad I hardly know anyone who has a Google+ account. Everyone I know is over in facebook. They've also introduced Communities which I'm checking out right now & going to join a couple if I find something I like. So far the Gaming Community is too broad spectrum. If they had one for JUST Sims 3 I would have joined. There's a Harry Potter Community that both my son +Kyle Christian & +Eve Patricia Christian would love, the In the Kitchen Community looks interesting, the Minecraft Community is perfect for +Kyle Christian, I joined the Firefighters, The Knitting Lodge, Emergency medical Services, Earth, some I'm going to keep private :), Night Photography, Amazing Places To See, Space, Funny, Communities. There are probably a lot more that I haven't seen & I'm unsure how to search for communities, but this is good for now. The wind is still really blowing out there ... it's been like this all night. Amazingly our Christmas lights are still on the house & not stuck to the side of the neighbor's house ... yet. Yesterday was a busy day ... most of it was posted in yesterday's blog. After that I managed to at least have an egg salad sandwich & then started housecleaning. I got as far as clearing the bathroom counter ... didn't even actually "clean" it yet & the phone rang. Josh was stranded out by Frisco & needed a ride home. The ride he was supposed to have didn't pan out I guess. He tried calling Pete 1st but no answer. I knew Pete was on his way to FedEx & then on his way home, but I couldn't reach him either. I didn't want to risk not reaching him at all & then having him come all the way home, then having to go back out to get Josh after waiting over an hour, so after 3 attempts to reach Pete on top of Josh's 1 attempt, I left the house to get Josh myself. Well, I didn't get far. I made it as far as 546 & my truck died. The fuel light never came on & the digital readout said I had 35 miles until empty. More than enough to make it to the RaceTrac in McKinney. Yet here I was, dead on the side of the road ... in the dark ... with a storm heading in. I finally got ahold of Pete & it turns out Josh had finally gotten ahold of him but neither one told me about it ... so here I was, out for no reason, & stuck. Pete was now on his way to get me 1st, then Josh. I waited & waited. Pete calls. He's still in Plano & stuck. Dead stopped in traffic. An accident most likely. He's going to be a while. A long while. I said I was going to make a phone call & unless I call him again, get Josh & head home. I called the same sweet, wonderful person who rescued me earlier the same day. One of the busiest people I know who rarely ever gets a day off. He already spent a part of it rescuing me & here I'm calling him AGAIN. Without hesitation he said "SURE!, I'll be right there!" How did I meet such nice people? His day off was spent driving from the east side of his town to the west side of another town 2 towns away ... to the west. Long trip. Then manual labor, then my house, more manual labor, then home, then back past my house, emptied his 5 gallon fuel can into my truck, then back home. Some day off, huh? I tried to offer him cash for all the time, labor, & fuel & he flat out refused. Says I don't owe him a thing. Wow! My faith in the human race has been restored. Not EVERYONE is a jerk & some are not only nice, but are SO nice that they make up for all the jerks out there. To my twice in 1 day rescuer ... THANK YOU! :) Pete & Josh got home much later & JUST in time to help me move the furniture that was in the driveway still into the house before the downpour hit. I mean JUST in time. Then Pete had to head back out & asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. Sure, let's see if we can go for 3X getting my truck stranded in 1 day. LOL! We didn't, it was fine. Drove through some heavy rain but it dried out quickly after it stopped. Took care of Pete's business & then stopped at iHop for dinner. When we got home we watched Chicago Fire & the last 2 minutes were unbelievable. I think my exact words were "Holy ____!" What a day. Myrtle beach TOMORROW! WOOOOO!! Today I plot a course, check the weather along the route, replot the course as necessary, get the truck tuned up & ready to go, & pack most of what I'm taking with the exception of what I'm going to immediately need to use between now & tomorrow at this time. I'll still blog, but they'll be spotty at best & maybe shorter (?). We'll see how it goes. Probably no blogging from the road unless Pete drives for a bit & that one might be shorter simply because blogging from my tiny phone screen is difficult at best, but we'll see how bored I get as a passenger IF we switch. Everyone have a great Christmas & I'll be back anywhere between tomorrow & New Year's Eve (MY FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR!)

1st thing you should do when you're laid off is take your severance & put it in a pile & call that your emergency fund. Don't pan an extra on any debts & stop adding to retirement & college accounts. Do a detailed budget of your household & cut your lifestyle to nothing, so your emergency money will last as long as possible. Replace your life & health insurance, & roll your 401(k) directly into an IRA with a direct transfer rollover. Then start looking for a job, & don't be afraid to take part-time gigs to keep money coming in while you look.

NATO assumes peacekeeping duties in Bosnia (1995):
During a brief military ceremony in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, French General Bernard Janvier, head of the United Nations peacekeeping force, formally transfers military authority in Bosnia to U.S. Admiral Leighton Smith, commander of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces in Southern Europe.
The solemn ceremony cleared the path for the deployment of 60,000 NATO troops to enforce the Dayton Peace Accords, signed in Paris by the leaders of the former Yugoslavia on December 14. The U.S.-backed peace plan was proposed during talks in Dayton, Ohio, earlier in the year and was reluctantly accepted by the last of the belligerent parties in November, ending four years of bloody conflict in the former Yugoslavia, which cost more than 200,000 lives.
The United Nations peacekeeping mission to Bosnia began in early 1992, shortly after the war erupted over efforts by the Bosnian Serbs to achieve independence from Bosnia-Herzegovina and unite with Serbia. Although the U.N. force was crucial in distributing humanitarian aid to the impoverished population of Bosnia, it was unable to stop the fighting. Approximately 25,000 U.N. peacekeepers served in Bosnia over three and a half years, and during that time 110 of those were killed, 831 wounded, and hundreds taken hostage.
The NATO force, with its strong U.S. support and focused aim of enforcing the Dayton agreement, was more successful in bringing stability to the war-torn region.

Vilipend:
1: To hold or treat as of little worth or account. 2: Too express a low opinion of : disparge.
As a women's movement pioneer, Susan B. Anthony fought against the dictums of those who would villipend women by treating them as 2nd-class citizens.
"Villipend" 1st appeared in English in the 15th century & comes to us through French from the Latin roots vilis, meaning "cheap" or "vile," + pendere, meaning "to weigh" or "to estimate." These roots work in tandem to form the meaning "to deem to be of little worth." Other vilis offspring include "vile" & "vilify," & pendere has spawned such terms as "append," "expend," & "dispense."
