I had a good day yesterday & I hope you did too. :) I started out my day with an Eggo for breakfast & then dusted my night stand & took Josh to work. After that it was Sims time! I finished Heart of Texas & I'm very pleased with the way it came out. The nursery came out great. It's been uploaded to the Exchange & is available for download. Just search for Heart of Texas or LizC864 if you'd like to see all of my lots (minus the ones that got randomly deleted by the server). I also ended up going through my game queue & deleting 19 games. These were the games that I didn't
really like playing, like most of the Ambitions games. I like Ambitions, but I spend enough time in Create a Sim for my own purposes & doing just that in the game means I can't work on the household & future generations as easily. Same with the Decorator career ... I love doing that, but I do it when I build my lots, not in the game itself. I really like the firefighter career, but again, if I'm there, I can't be at the house working with the spouse, children, &
pets. Same with Ghost Hunter, etc. I also had a couple duplicates, like Christian - Grady & my New Office ... & Charmed Manor & Halliwell Manor. Southfork was OK, but unfurnished & just too much for me to figure out how to furnish that one. Whitenbrow (?) House was also the same problem. After I did all that, I wanted to add some new music to my Custom Music folder for during gameplay, so I went & got Gangham Style, Party Rock Anthem, & a
few other songs. That led to going out to my truck & reprogramming all 24 presets on my stereo. In between all that, I managed to get some game play in with my Edgewater lot that I built. Zoey is a nurturing perfectionist who's excitable, unlucky, & an angler. She joined the science career & loves french toast, custom music, & the color grey. She's a Taurus. Her furry companion is Piper. Piper is an American Staffordshire Terrier who's
non-destructive, likes swimming, & is independent. Zoey met Boyd Wainwright at work & married him before the 1st game day was done. I'm nothing if not speedy. LOL! They adopted Hawk to keep Piper company & then had a son, Neo (2nd generation). Neo is grumpy, loves the outdoors, is a Sagittarius who likes hip hop, key lime pie, & the color black. He's disciplined & a savvy sculptor. Hmmm ... 2 skill traits to choose from! Disciplined is great for the martial arts skill, but doesn't pay. Sculpting, on the other hand, pays well & he's already very skilled at it. Still in high school, his sculpting skill has already reached level 8. Piper & Hawk had puppies & Luther Wainwright (2nd generation) was added to the happy family. Luther is adventurous & independent. Neo was having trouble meeting a girl in school, but then Vanessa Ursine followed him home one day. They got along OK, but he was still having trouble getting into a relationship. Then prom came & Vanessa took it upon herself to finally make them an item. He went to prom single & came back with the best possible relationship status with Vanessa & they were now going steady. Way to go Neo! The next time I open up the game, I'm going to begin a new lot ... this one doesn't have a name, so it will be called "LizC964 11". This will be a 3-story home with one of the 3 stories built as a basement. It will have 3 bedrooms, a nursery, 3½ bathrooms, & no garage. It will have a large covered front porch, & a large back porch with a fireplace. It'll have a large open foyer which widens into a great room with lots of glass along the rear wall. The adjoining dining room & kitchen make it a great living space. The master suite is on the main level & features a separate tub & shower, double vanity & large walk-in closet. Upstairs there are 2 additional bedrooms & much more. Back IRL, the Princeton Fall Festival is tomorrow!

On this day in 2001, President George W. Bush signs the Patriot Act, an anti-terrorism law drawn up in response to the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
The USA PATRIOT Act, as it is officially known, is an acronym for
"Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools
Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism." Bush hoped the bipartisan
legislation would empower law enforcement and intelligence agencies to
prevent future terrorist attacks on American soil.
The law was intended, in Bush’s words, to "enhance the penalties that
will fall on terrorists or anyone who helps them." The act increased
intelligence agencies’ ability to share information and lifted
restrictions on communications surveillance. Law enforcement officials
were given broader mandates to fight financial counterfeiting, smuggling
and money laundering schemes that funded terrorists. The Patriot Act’s
expanded definition of terrorism also gave the FBI increased powers to
access personal information such as medical and financial records. The
Patriot Act superseded all state laws.
While Congress voted in favor of the bill, and some in America felt
the bill actually did not go far enough to combat terrorism, the law
faced a torrent of criticism. Civil rights activists worried that the
Patriot Act would curtail domestic civil liberties and would give the
executive branch too much power to investigate Americans under a veil of
secrecy—a fear not felt since the protest era of the 1960s and 1970s when the FBI bugged and infiltrated anti-war and civil rights groups.
The Patriot Act has faced ongoing legal challenges by the American
Civil Liberties Union, and in recent years, some members of Congress who
had originally supported the bill have come to mistrust the Bush
administration’s interpretation of the law. Nevertheless, a
Republican-controlled Congress passed and Bush signed a renewal of the
controversial Patriot Act in March 2006. Bush exacerbated the
controversy over the renewal of the act by issuing a so-called "signing
statement"—an executive exemption from enforcing or abiding by certain
clauses within the law—immediately afterward.
Heterodox:
1: unorthodox or unconventional. 2: Holding unorthodox opinions or doctrines.
In the 16th century, Nicolaus Copernicus presented the then-heterodox theory that the sun is the center of our solar system.
"Orthodoxy ... is my doxy - heterodoxy is another man's doxy," quipped 18th-century bishop William Warburton. He was only punning, but it's true that individuals often see other peoples ideas as unconventional while regarding their own as beyond reproach. The antonyms "orthodox" & "heterodox" developed from the same root, the Greek doxa, which means "opinion." "Heterodox" derives from doxa + heter-, a combining from meaning "other" or "different"; "orthodoxy" pairs doxa with orth-, meaning "correct" or "straight."

My principle for investing in something is that it needs to have a good long track record of steady returns without a ton of volatility. Gold as an investment, when you study its track record, stinks. 100% of the returns gold has generated in the past 7 years are fear-based.
Start with a clean tablecloth or place mats & coordinating napkins. Napkins go in the center of the place settings or to the left of the forks. Utensils shouldn't be placed on top of the napkin - for the simple reason that the napkin is handled by the diner 1st & is easier to get to if utensils don't need to be moved.
A serial killer in Florida is murdering prostitutes, and it's up to
James Belushi and Tony Goldwyn to track him down in this whodunit that
has more twists and turns than a scenic railway. Lorraine Bracco plays a
wealthy Palm Beach femme fatale who seduces both cops. Like William
Holden in Sunset Boulevard, Belushi narrates the story as a corpse.
