- October 16, 2012 -

I had a feeling today was going to be nuts, Tuesdays usually are, that's why I planned ahead yesterday. I drove Josh to work, came home & loaded up Sims. Call it pre-de-stressing. I completed the master bath for Heart of Texas. The house runs from the front property line to the back property line with no room to spare. Next I start working on the part that shoots out to the left from the kitchen. If my math is right, & it was for the depth, it should run property line to property line in that direction also. Then I loaded up my Inventor game. I picked up where I left off
with Danny Riffin, the 2nd generation in this game. He's a Virgo who likes french music, grilled salmon, & the color Lilac (also my favorite IRL). He's eccentric (helpful with the inventor job), a virtuoso, insane, & a party animal. When I left off, he was a teen who's going to age up into a young adult 1st thing in the morning at 7:a. I left him down in the basement inventing when I saved the game. He's doing very well for still being a teen. He's already at
level 8 of the Inventor skill & has made lots of money with his inventions. I think he's level 4 or 5 already in his self-employed business. When he ages up in the morning, he's going to call, invite over, & marry his school sweetheart Takisha Hudson. They'll have a child named Liz or Lewis Riffin & I'm guessing before the child is school-age, Danny will have mastered the Inventing skill. One of his inventions, the biggest one, worth $800 is a miner. I've never seen one
& had no idea what it did. I placed it outside & clicked on it. That thing started drilling a hole in the yard & made so much noise that it looked like half the town showed up in our front yard to yell at us. Before I turned it off, I managed to dig up 2 gems. Way cool! :) I kept that one & had Danny make another one to sell. The other item that I had Danny make 2 of so we could keep one was the floor hydrogenator. That's a pretty cool little device, too & we have it placed at the bottom of the staircase. We get all kinds of interesting positive moodlets from walking over it. New car smell, minty fresh, etc. Today when I woke up it was just 1 thing after another. I woke up & Pete was still here & running late. He left an hour later & then I typed up the meeting minutes the best I could for the meeting tonight. Then I showered & got ready for the meeting, then had to run to McKinney for an errand, then finally got home to start my day ... at 1:p. Ugh! 1 is a bad start time because I got up at NINE! That's 4 hours before I could get to my personal stuff & I've only got as of now, about 4 hours before I have to get to the meeting tonight. This isn't a time crunch, it's a time squish. Bug ... windshield ... I'm the bug. Oh, & I don't know what happened to my left shoulder & hip, but OUCH! I was fine, I was watching TV with Pete & 20 minutes into it I reached for something & could barely move my left arm. Sharp pain in the muscle on the top of my left shoulder. Same with my left hip. WTH? I didn't fall, I didn't do anything different or unusual. Yet the pain kept waking me up all night. Every time I moved or even worse, rolled over onto my left side, I was wide awake & regretting it. It still hurts as bad now as it did last night. Anyway, LCFD business meeting tonight at 7.

Biodiversity:
Biological diversity in an environment as indicated by numbers of different species of plants & animals.
The study shows that current fishing & zoning laws are not adequately protecting the biodiversity of the reef's ecosystem.
"Biodiversity may become the rallying call for the next decade," wrote David Wake in 1989 in the journal Science. Indeed, "biodiversity" is a word you're likely to encounter in writings about ecology & the environment today. But when Wake used it, "biodiversity" was still a relatively new addition to the English language, having 1st appeared in writing in the mid-1980s. Of course, the roots of "biodiversity" are much older. It evolved from a commingling of the descendants of the Greek noun bios ("made of life") & the Latin verb divertere, which means "to turn aside" or "to go different ways."

Chameleons eat fast food! The color-changing reptile uses its rapid-fire tongue, which can accelerate at a G-force of 50, when catching prey. That's 5 times greater than an F16 fighter jet.

Don't starve to death here on earth while you're working on lofty goals. A lofty goal is being a stay-at-home mom or dad. A lofty goal is finishing that graduate degree. But you've got to have enough time out of the clouds with your feet on the ground to be able to do the cloud stuff. Sometimes life says you've got to do something different & you're going to have to arrange things differently to take care of what's necessary. Sometimes you have to make a living.

IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon is killed in crash (2011):
On this day in 2011, 33-year-old Dan Wheldon, a popular, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, dies following a fiery, 15-car crash during the IndyCar World Championship at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. Wheldon’s death marked the first on-track IndyCar fatality since 2006, when 30-year-old driver Paul Dana perished in a crash during a practice session at Florida’s Homestead-Miami Speedway. Wheldon went on to victory in that day’s race.
Born on June 22, 1978, Wheldon was raised in Emberton, England, and was a champion kart racer. In the late 1990s, he moved to America to continue his auto-racing career. After competing in several lesser-known open-wheel series, he advanced to the IndyCar series, where he was named the 2003 rookie of the year. He won his first IndyCar event in 2004 at Japan’s Twin Ring Montegi.
In 2005, Wheldon won the Indianapolis 500, the first Englishman to do so since Grant Hill in 1966. With six first-place finishes in 2005, he shattered the record for most wins in a single IndyCar season and claimed that year’s series championship. Wheldon prevailed at the Indy 500 again on May 29, 2011, the 100th anniversary of the famous race. Despite this victory, he lacked the sponsorship to drive full-time during the 2011 season, and the October 16, 2011, event in Las Vegas marked just his third race of the year. Wheldon agreed to participate in a league promotion for part-time drivers in which he would start the 200-lap event at the back of the pack of 34 cars and split a $5 million bonus with a fan if he won the race.
Wheldon’s fatal crash occurred early in the race, on the 11th lap, with cars on the 1.5-mile oval track traveling at speeds of more than 200 mph. After a multi-vehicle crash suddenly occurred ahead of Wheldon, his car hit another car, went flying through the air and slammed into a fence. He was airlifted to a hospital and his death was announced a short time later. Several other drivers were injured in the pileup, although none critically. Experts labeled it one of the worst crashes in IndyCar history, and questions were raised about whether the track was large enough for the number of cars involved and whether it was too fast for them.
The remainder of the race, the final one of the season, was cancelled. Afterward, in a tribute to Wheldon, who racked up 16 victories over the course of his IndyCar career, drivers circled the Las Vegas track for five laps while fans looked on from the stands. It was later reported that prior the race, Wheldon had inked a multi-year deal with Andretti Autosport to replace Danica Patrick (the first-ever female to win an IndyCar race), who planned to leave IndyCar for NASCAR.

Country music legend Conway Twitty. The title character in Bye Bye Birdie is Conrad Birdie. The musical is a spoof on Elvis Presley and the uproar over his 1958 induction into the army.

CAB. The world has well over 600 million cars, but there are only about 250,000 English words. And a human being has only 40,000-75,000 genes - about the same as a roundworm. Sort of humbling, I'd say.
