Happy 16th birthday Kyle! It's been interesting watching you go through all your phases. There was Tigger, then Legos, followed by "I hate everything", then the pants hanging off your butt phase, marching band, the salesman in you came out, Skittles, now you dress like a businessman & are going to be in Congress someday. You & I take care of the house together & you've earned new respect with the responsibility you've shown. It's amazing watching someone morph through all the different phases of their life, turning from a boy into a man. Everyone is so proud of you now! You've got our vote & when you get to Congress, will you remember us little people? ;-)
This MTV film dramatizes the horrific hate-crime killing of 21-year-old
Matthew Shepard (Cy Carter) in Wyoming. In 1998, Shepard, a gay college
student, was savagely beaten by Russell Henderson (Ian Somerhalder) and
Aaron McKinney (Brendan Fletcher), who left their victim to die.
Flashbacks paint a picture of Shepard's life and provide insight into
why the killers, who initially set out to rob the young man, would
commit such a brutal murder.
Hurricane Claudette gathers strength over the Gulf of Mexico and heads for the Texas
coast on this day in 2003. By the time it passes through Texas, it
causes major damage, especially in Galveston, where it kills two people.
Claudette began to form over St. Lucia in the Caribbean on July
8. It officially became a tropical storm two days later, when it hit
the Yucatan peninsula. For four days, it meandered over the Gulf of
Mexico, losing strength and direction. Then, on July 14, the storm's
winds regained strength and it pushed toward central Texas. Claudette
reached hurricane status on July 15, when it hit the Texas coast with
90-mile-per-hour winds.
The gusting winds, some more than 100 miles per hour, felled power
lines and trees. Both Texans who died in the storm, a woman in Victoria
and a boy in Jourdanton, were killed by falling tree limbs. The Coast
Guard was able to rescue two men whose shrimp boat sank in the storm
near Galveston. Although the eye of the storm hit more than 100 miles
away from Galveston, storm waves there crashed far above the sea wall.
As the storm moved inland, it lost strength and was downgraded to a
tropical depression. Still, Claudette dumped eight inches of rain and
set off some isolated twisters before dispersing.
Doughty:
Marked by fearless resolution : valiant
Noticing that the cashier shorted him a nickel, the doughty child marched up to the counter & demanded it from her.
The original Old English form of today's word was dyhtig, but early on, the vowel changed, & the word became dohtig, probably influenced by the related Old English dohte, which meant "had worth." The spelling "doughty" had begun to appear by the 13th century. Over the centuries, the spelling was sometimes confused with that of the now obsolete word "doubty," meaning "full of doubt," & thus, do it's conjectured, "doughty" gained the pronunciation we use today.
Have a backup plan in case of bad weather. If you live in a rainy area, consider investing in a shade canopy to protect food while guest run inside.

With a teenager behind the wheel, ever go bare bones with car insurance. You need good, high-liability amounts of coverage. Liability is the best buy across the insurance world today, & that includes car insurance. It really doesn't change the pricing much, either, to run heavy on the liability.
You like to entertain in restaurants but find that ordering is often awkward, as some of your guests don't seem to know what to get. How can you let them know that they can order anything they want?
Sometimes guests are afraid to order something too expensive or are concerned that they'll be the only one ordering an appetizer or soup. The host can put everyone at ease by saying things like, "The chilled shrimp are the best I've ever had, & the Caesar salad is a must if you're a fan [so they know it's okay to order a 1st course], & I can also recommend the prime rib [or another item that's in the top price range]." Without having to say, "please order an appetizer," you'll let guests know that you expect them to do so.
