Kyle & I moved a bunch of things from the front to the back yard where they belonged such as the BBQ grill, fire pit, a length of hose, my front porch glider swing which looked great out front, but I sit out back 99% of the time, so I much prefer it there, then I went & got a little work done at the station, another member showed up to do some work too (It's nice to see participation at the station), Pete & I went to DQ & that was about it other than the normal housecleaning stuff. I'm glad it's Friday though, this week has been a rough one. I only finished everything ONE day this week & that was back on Monday. Maintenance at the station Tuesday.
Everyone loves whales, & they've got a whole layer of blubber. Stop dieting.
On this day in 1994, the movie Forrest Gump opens in U.S. theaters. A huge box-office success, the film starred
Tom Hanks in the title role of Forrest, a good-hearted man with a low
I.Q. who winds up at the center of key cultural and historical events of
the second half of the 20th century.
Forrest Gump was based on a 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom, who (like his main character) grew up in Alabama
and served in the Army during Vietnam. In the film--which included
now-famous lines like “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know
what you’re gonna get”--Forrest is a star runner and ping-pong prodigy
who inadvertently rubs elbows with the key figures in a number of
landmark events, from Elvis to the Civil Rights Movement
to Watergate to the rise of Apple computers. He pursues and eventually
marries his childhood friend Jenny, played by Robin Wright Penn, who
veered from Forrest’s conservative path and became a hippie in the 1960s. Some commentators argued that Jenny’s eventual demise was a statement about the counter-culture movement in America.
Forrest Gump
received 13 Academy Award nominations and took home six Oscars,
including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Hanks) and Best
Director (Robert Zemeckis). The film also won an Oscar for its
then-cutting-edge computer-generated imagery (CGI) special effects,
which incorporated Forrest Gump into existing news footage with famous
world figures including John F. Kennedy, John Lennon and Richard Nixon.
The
win was Hanks’ second in the Best Actor category. A year earlier, the
actor had nabbed an Oscar for his starring role as a lawyer with AIDS in
Philadelphia (1993). With Forrest Gump, Hanks became only
the second actor, after Spencer Tracy, to win back-to-back Oscars. In
addition to his Oscar wins, he was nominated for Academy Awards in the
Best Actor category for his performances in Big (1988), Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Cast Away (2000).
Gary Gladhand, the politician, was very tired after a long day of
campaigning. He went to bed at 10:p, wound his alarm clock &
set it for noon the next day. Since Gar fell asleep almost immediately,
how many hours of sleep did he get before the alarm woke him?
2 hours. Wind-up clocks can't be set more than 12 hours in advance.
Include all the necessary information for your guests in an invitation: date, time & place, of course. Is the party a casual get-together or more formal? What about the attire? Maybe a guest would benefit by knowing ahead of time who else will be there, but only mention it when he RSVPs, not on the invitation.
Pecksniffian:
Unctuously hypocritical : sanctimonious.
The TV commentator made some salient points, but I could do without his Pecksniffian moralizing about a need for humility.
Seth Pecksniff, a character with a holier-than-thou attitude in Charles Dicken's's 1844 novel Martin Chuzzlewit, was no angel, though he certainly tried to pass himslef off as one. Pecksniff liked to preach morality & brag about his own virtue, but in reality he was a deceptive rascal who would use any means to advance his own selfish interests. It didn't take long for Pecksniff's reputation for canting sanctimoniousness to leave its mark on the English language; "Pecksniffian" has been used as a synonym of "hypocritical" since 1849.
Shadow surveys the scene. A woman is shot to death & is laying face down in the parking lot. A light snow covers the ground. Leading to the body is as set of footprints which run between 2 sets of parallel tracks. Leading away from the dead woman are just 2 sets of parallel tracks. What type of person should shadow be looking for?

You know the importance of having an emergency fund of 3-6 months of expenses in your personal finances? The same principle applies to business. When business slows down or the economy does a nosedive, having a cash reserve will soften the blow & help you make it through the lean times. And if something goes wrong or breaks down, it will turn a disaster into nothing but a minor inconvenience.
