Busy day for the FD yesterday. The 1st call was so early (for me) that I slept right through it. I made the 2nd call, then just when I thought it was all over & it was safe to leave the district (who am I kidding, it's NEVER safe to leave the district), I get showered, put on my non-fd clothing & makeup, perfume, hair barrette, the whole thing ... meet Pete for some food & the tones go off ... again. Of course. There was no way to make it back in time from where I was. Got up & drove to Irving this morning & Hero Rush was great! No offense to our guys or this entire county, but the firefighters from the Irving FD & other surrounding areas out there ... WHOA! They looked like they were there to pose for a firefighter studs calender. Our guys don't look like that! DAMN!! I think these guys are either running calls, eating, sleeping, or WORKING OUT. Of course they were all wearing t-shirts with the sleeves torn off & sliced down the sides to show off & if I were 20 years younger ... LOL! Anyway, it was great & thanks to Pete & Kyle for coming out there with me & volunteering.
Abulia:
An abnormal lack of ability to act or to make decisions.
"Since graduating from college, my son seems to be suffering from abulia - he just can't decide what he wants to do next," sighed Philip.
"I must have a prodigious quantity of mind," Mark Twain once wrote. "It takes me as much as a week, sometimes, to make it up." The indecision Twain laments is fairly common, but when the inability to make decisions reaches an abnormal level, it's called "abulia." "Abulia" can refer to the kind of generalized indecision that makes it impossible to choose what flavor ice cream you want, though it was created to name a severe medical disorder that can render a person nearly inert.
As a parent, you are, of course, responsible for letting your child know when his or her actions have been inappropriate or disrespectful. But do so in private after the heat of the situation dwindles & you are home in a secure spot. Showing your teen this respect will win you points - & will teach him or her respect.

Custer State Park, SD:
Just as in Dances with Wolves (the movie was shot here), there are still cowboys, & buffalo have the run of the place.
Bernard "Bern" Lemly (Gregory Hines) is fed up with being in a
wheelchair and wants more out of life. Meanwhile, former football player
Tony "Ole" Olezniak (Vincent D'Onofrio) is stewing after recently
losing his sight. The men soon realize they can put their frustrated
energy to good use by competing in a whitewater rafting race on Oregon's
Rouge River. In the process, they discover their disabilities don't
have to destroy their dreams.
Help Dad organize his ties. 1st donate or toss any ties that are worn, faded, or out of date. If Dad hasn't worn the tie in 15 months, then he probablyh won't. Sort the ties by occasion or attire (formal ties, work ties, holiday ties, etc.). Use a tie hanger to hang the ties neatly so Dad can see all of his ties at once.
How did a heavy-duty coil spring from a John Deere cultivator change the game of basketball?
How many grooves are there on each side of a standard 33-1/3 record album that has 6 songs on each side?
There is 1 groove on each side. When you put the needle on the album it follows 1 groove from the beginning to the end. If there was more than 1 groove, the needle would stop at the end of each groove, which happens to be the situation when a needle finds a good scratch.
It was a warm, rainy day. At 9:30a, Sit Shady left his idling car facing the 'Rolling Donut Shop' & walked down the hill to 'Al's Garage'. Shady complained to Al that his car had been acting strange lately. At 10:a, Shady's driverless car rolled down the hill, went through the 'Rolling Donut Shop' window, & killed none other than Mrs. Shady. The puddle of water on the floor of the driver's side convinced Shadow to suspect Shady of foul play. Since Shady did not use any mechanical device, how could he have committed the crime when he wasn't hear the car?
Party guest brought you a pot of blooming 'Tete-a-Tete' cyclamineus narcissus, a small daffodil variety. You've fallen in love with it. Too bad: the plant will die when the blooms are done & that's that. Right?
Au contraire! Invite that person back again! The small but mighty 'Tete-a-Tete' is one of the best daffodils for naturalizing after it's been forced. Keep it in a funny window, but plant the narcissus outdoors as soon as the danger of hard frost is past; don't wait for the foliage to die. And don't worry about burying part of the leaves, which you will probably have to do in order to plant the bulbs at the proper depth. The bulb bases should be about 4" from the surface.

On this day in 1999, Kathleen Ann Soliah, a former member of
the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), is arrested near her home in St.
Paul, Minnesota. Soliah, who now calls herself Sara Jane Olsen, had been
evading authorities for more than 20 years.
In the mid-1970s, the SLA, a small, radical American paramilitary
group, made a name for itself with a series of murders, robberies and
other violent acts. They were most well-known for the 1974 kidnapping of
heiress Patty Hearst, who became a member of the group. In April 1975,
members of the SLA robbed a bank in Carmichael, California, and, in the
process, killed one of the bank's customers, Myrna Opsahl. According to
Patty Hearst, who served as the group's getaway driver that day, Soliah
took part in the robbery.
Four months later, in August 1975, Lost Angeles policemen discovered a
bomb where one of their patrol cars had earlier been parked. Though
police believe it had been designed to explode when the car moved, it
had failed to detonate. Soliah was indicted for the crime in 1976 but by
then she had already left town, and did not return, becoming a fugitive
for nearly 23 years. Soliah eventually settled with her husband, a
doctor, and three children in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she continued
to advocate for various causes under the assumed name Sara Jane Olsen.
In the spring of 1999, however, Soliah's case was featured on an episode of television's America's Most Wanted;
she was arrested several weeks later. In 2002, as part of a plea
bargain, she pled guilty to two counts of planting bombs and was
sentenced to five years and four months in jail. The Board of Prison
Terms then changed her sentence to 14 years. After pleading guilty to
the attempted bombings, she was arraigned for the Opsahl killing and was
later convicted and sentenced to another six years.
In 2004, a judge threw out the adjusted 14-year term, saying the
board "abused its discretion" in changing the sentence. She was released
from a California prison in March 2009.
