LCFD Business meeting went well last night. :-) This morning I checked
out another random place in 2nd Life & I think I may have found
where I want to be. :) It's called Bay City. I didn't even have time to
check it ALL out, but I fell in love with a rental house there that's a
whopping $1,000/week. The house I'm in now which is very nice is only
$350/week. BUT, the one I looked at today is a HUGE Victorian. I wonder
if the car parked next to it comes with the house rental. Speaking of
cars, they also sell cars there & have all the hot cars, Corvettes,
Camaros, Mustangs, Vipers, you name it. I can FINALLY have my new Camaro
... for $1,500. Not bad actually, that's about $5 in real cash if I were to buy game cash with my credit card. What I need to do is get off my butt
& learn how to earn game money in the game. If I'm going to play, I need to learn how to earn game money, not spend real money IN the game. I like hobbies that support themselves ... like my crocheting & knitting do. I'm great at building
houses in the Sims & I want to do the same thing here. Going to have
to spend a week or so studying everything. It's a lot more involved
than the Sims & a lot more detailed. They even have a casino in Bay
City, but I'd prefer to earn my game money building houses & renting
them out. Can I BUY a house? Do I HAVE to rent? Buying would make much more sense. Hmmm ... so much to check into in the game. Princeton Onion Festival Saturday!
50-year-old Mark Martin wins NASCAR race (2009):
On this day in 2009, driver Mark Martin wins the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at the Phoenix International Speedway in Avondale, Arizona,
and becomes the first 50-year-old to claim victory at a National
Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) Sprint Cup race since
Morgan Shepherd did so at a race in Atlanta in 1993. Besides Martin and
Shepherd, only two other drivers age 50 or older have won Sprint Cup
events.
Mark Martin was born on January 9, 1959, in Batesville, Arkansas, and starting racing cars as a teenager. After winning the American Speed Association (ASA) championship in 1978, 1979 and 1980, Martin began his NASCAR Winston Cup (later known as the Sprint Cup) career in 1981. He had several seasons of moderate success then returned to ASA racing, winning another championship in 1986. In 1989, at the North Carolina Motor Speedway, Martin collected his first Winston Cup victory. He would go on to win more than 35 Cup races in the decades ahead and come in second in the overall Sprint Cup Series point standings four times, in 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002. Martin also collected five International Race of Champions (IROC) titles, in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2005. (IROC, which went out of business in 2008, was meant to be a pure test of a driver's ability, as competitors drove identical stock cars prepped by a single crew of mechanics.) Among Martin's other accomplishments are the most victories (47) in NASCAR's secondary Busch series.
Standing beside Martin in the 50-and-up winner's circle is Bobby Allison, who in 1988 won his fourth Daytona 500 at the age of 50 (his son Davey finished the 200-lap, 500-mile race in second place). Bobby Allison, who was born on December 3, 1937, in Florida, drove in his first Daytona 500 in 1961 and went on to win the race in 1978 and 1982, in addition to his 1988 victory. (The youngest driver to claim victory at the Daytona 500 is Jeff Gordon, who did so in 1997 at the age of 25.) The oldest driver to win a Cup race is Harry Gant, who was born on January 10, 1940, and in 1992, at the age of 52, won the Champion Spark Plug 400 at the Michigan International Speedway.
Color Purple:
Whoopi Goldberg stars as Celie, a Southern woman whose correspondence with her sister in Africa helps her escape an abusive husband (portrayed with a scary edge by Danny Glover) and a life of bitter circumstance. Steven Spielberg directs this Oscar-nominated drama, a sterling adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, that boasts an evocative soundtrack by Quincy Jones and a moving performance by Oprah Winfrey.
Duct Tape:
With just 1 roll you can fix book bindings, broken plastic, umbrella tears & more.
Food is an important part of your personal reward system when you've done something sensational - like get out of bed in the morning.
Kitchen:
Keep a piece of paper attached to the fridge to write down items that need to be purchased as you think of them or as you run out of something. Reference this list before running errands or grocery shopping. (Personal note: There's an app for that & that means you have it with you EVERYWHERE, not just in the kitchen & there's no paper attached to your fridge & no pen for the kids to constantly walk off with making your paper on the fridge useless).
Napery:
Household linen; especially : table linen.
He appeared to great advantage behind the white napery & silver platters of the table & displaying his arms with a knife & fork.
Since the 14th century, "napery" has been used as a fancy word for household linens, especially those used to cover a table. It derives via Middle English from Anglo-French nape, meaning "tablecloth," & ultimately from Latin mappa ("napkin"). You can see the word "napkin" itself in that root; another, much less obvious relative is "apron," which was once spelled as "napron" in Middle English but gradually evolved to its current spelling by way of English-speakers habitually misdividing the phrase "a napron" as "an apron."
